Passionate about the power of electronic health information technology and exchange to improve health care and health equity for people, families and communities. Working nationally in Washington, DC and in California to transform health care by developing and leveraging electronic health information exchange as the backbone for patient engagement and access, delivery reform and shared care planning, health equity and social determinants of health, and community and population health.Over 30 years as an executive, managing attorney, and strategic advocate for people and underserved communities, through policy development, civil-rights impact litigation, multi-cultural coalition building, governmental and nonprofit boards, legislative testimony, public education, and projects. Focus areas have included health care, insurance redlining, education, telecommunications and digital divide, civil rights, and language access. In health IT, recent successes include:• Nationwide health policies enabling online access for patients and family caregivers to view, download, use, and share their critical health records.• Integrating social determinants of health into electronic health records.• Integrating patients’ personal goals and family care givers for shared care planning.• More granular demographic data collection to identify and reduce health disparities.• Landmark nationwide survey of how consumers value and use health IT.
