Merc InternMercer Engineering Research Center May 2020 - Jun 2022Warner Robins, Georgia, United StatesWhile at MERC, I was involved in helping the NAVY establish their own maintenance record for their helicopters in a variety of ways. I was required to think critically to come up with solutions to complex problems stemming from large databases and convoluted information. Along the way, I learned Python and created numerous scripts with it. I used this knowledge of Python to expedite and optimize tasks given to me. While doing so, I used a plethora of Python tools. More specifically, I used Python to read an excel file, use a variety of loops, use a variety of conditional statements, use a variety of data types, implement advanced regexes, use pandas data frames to manipulate data, and export data frames to an excel file. Another task was to coordinate with members of a team to create a standard when reporting Navy aircraft maintenance records. Due to the complexities of the aircrafts, it was vital for constant correspondence to make sure all members were reporting records the same. Multiple sources, including Navy technical documents, former maintainers, FEM models, excel files, and emails, were cross-referenced to ensure the most accurate reporting.

A tutee's knowledge and understanding was gauged as they worked through the problems, and their practice work during the session was adapted appropriately. Students were encouraged and kept focused through feedback.
