Mark Andrew Van den dries (born 19 April 1978) is an Australian artist. Mark Van den dries is the founder of the Now Art Movement known as Metamodernism or Metaconceptualism.Following in Duchamps conceptual Readymades, the gallery blessed the object making it art. Now in the digital culture "Memes" are the raw extension of conceptual thinking. The social understood image given new context without the need of a gallery.The digital culture is Meta referring to itself or to the conventions of its genre; self-referential. Music, movies, literature, information and art are now a Metaphysical experience.The Metaphysical nature of digital work is referring to an idea, doctrine, or posited reality outside of human sense perception. As such, it is concerned with explaining the features of reality that exist beyond the physical world and our immediate senses. Often based in emotion they are used to shift ones viewpoint or to get reaction.The overall movement can hardly be ignored, as the counter effect often plays out in reality.Often seen for its negative attributes, the power of "like" minded groups has massive impacts for social coercion and it not yet fully understood. Memes are currently sold as Tokenized artworks which are pieces of digital art stored on the blockchain allowing them to be secure and verifiable. It’s like purchasing a certificate of ownership over a digital item, which allows it to hold value (or lose!) just like physical artworks. Some works are also created into physical objects.
