I am the Director of Environmental, Health and Safety for the RPC Europe Division of Sonoco.I joined Sonoco in July 2019 as the Health and Safety Manager for the Bradford plant. Prior to joining Sonoco I spent 15 years with the engineering company Weir Minerals Europe – starting as an apprentice within maintenance I progressed to become a Maintenance Electrician before becoming their UK Safety, Health & Environment Manager; in this senior role I had oversight for two manufacturing sites in the UK and a wide sales & service network across Western Europe. I have an Engineering degree in Computer Aided Engineering from the University of Central Lancashire 2011 and I am currently working towards my NEBOSH Diploma having successfully passed the Unit A and Unit C exams. I am a health and safety professional and registered IOSH trainer with a wealth of varied experience gained in a manufacturing environment. I have been responsible for maintaining and improving advanced management systems, as well as rolling out behavioural safety initiatives and identifying and implementing improvements in safety within an operational setting. I am passionate about safety and I'm personally dedicated to driving improvements in Health and Safety throughout our business and working towards the Sonoco goal of creating a Zero Injury Environment.

This equipment includes Overhead Cranes and Jib Cranes, CNC Machinery, Induction Furnaces, Sand Machines, Compressors and Heat Treatment Ovens.In spite of my primary job changing to that of working as a Pump Test Rig Technician in the Test Rig department, I remained an ever present resource for the Maintenance department. I did and continue to work as a Maintenance Electrician every weekend as overtime and predominantly as the sole Electrician on site on these occasions.The work carried out within the Maintenance department ranges from Planned Maintenance work and Conditional Monitoring, for example vibration testing and thermal imaging. To reactive maintenance, which is responding to breakdowns and malfunctions.

Pump Test Rig TechnicianWeir Minerals Apr 2012 - May 2015Weir Minerals Europe TodmordenWhilst working in the Test Rig department of Weir Minerals Europe, I setup and tested the slurry pumps, which we manufacture at Weir Minerals.The testing included bearing temperature monitoring throughout the test and providing the customer with graphical evidence of the temperature curve produced. The purpose of the majority of the tests was to measure performance, which was achieved by measuring flow, head and the kW reading. From all this data the absorbed kW can be calculated as well as the Water kW reading.Accelerometers were used to measure vibration on five points of the bearing cartridge whilst the performance testing was carried out.My skills as an electrician were required to install new flow control valves and flow meters to bring the testing equipment forward whilst I worked in the department.Part of the job entailed high voltage switching and working on a high voltage transformer and Igranic starter unit. This was to change the required voltage output for the desired high voltage motor.The job involved working both independently and as part of a small team, where good communication between team members was paramount.

These tasks included the Planned Maintenance tasks raised from a planner within the Frontline Maintenance Management System, which was the system used by Weir Minerals Europe in Todmorden. I also raised tasks for Breakdowns and Malfunctions, which were notified to me either in person or via telephone or email from workers throughout the site.Another part of my job entailed liaising with Contractors and External Companies to arrange services for equipment on site.I was also responsible for the ordering of stock and non-stock items for the Maintenance department and had create Purchase Orders using SAP.As a result of my days doing this job I am very familiar with SAP and as a result of this, I have been heavily involved in the current changeover to a new all encompassing SAP system at Weir Minerals Europe in Todmorden, which is expected to go live in September 2015.
