I advised the capital development team on operational and maintenance requirements for new builds and refurbishments from an engineering point of view, and facilitated minimum standard specifications for future projects, strengthening handover documents to smooth out the process. Accountable for a significant budget, I managed spending and forecasting ensuring cost efficiency and value within a high demand spending framework and a stringent maintenance plan. Improving sustainability of provision and efficiency of the estates was a goal of mine, forward planning towards zero carbon goals and instilling a team ethos to do so, and I am proud to have made that contribution to the University.

My post was to provide technical services for large oil and gas fired plant and heating systems, air conditioning, air handling, water hygiene, pumped water systems, domestic solid fuel and district heating schemes, on a citywide basis for various committees of the council. Duties and responsibilities include liaise with area housing officers and other departments such as Arts and Leisure on all matters relating to planned maintenance and refurbishment work. To produce and update programme's of servicing and planned maintenance work. Obtain tenders and quotations and budget estimates for works as required. To assist in the preparation and monitoring of revenue and capital expenditure budgets. To prepare Technical Specifications, bills of quantity, drawings and all documents for the responsive repairs, servicing planned maintenance works and refurbishment projects. To supervise and control works carried out to City Council properties by contractors and to certify accounts for this work. Prepare detailed work programs and monitor their achievements as required. Undertake general surveying works and to assist with the development and maintenance of computer based and manual office systems and records. Use of AutoCAD and other computer based programs. The range of buildings varied from swimming pools and recreation centres to civic centre, law courts and dwellings both standalone and high rise flats.
