Safety Consultant
CurrentSafety assessment work associated with decommissioning the Berkeley and Dounreay nuclear sites and contaminated land related work.* Development and maintenance work on Dounreay Nuclear Inventory Database, and shadow assessment/accountancy checks of categorised exotic fuel items that are destined to leave the site. * Comparison of the staged approaches of Magnox and former UKAEA safety assessment methodologies involving faults, consequence and mitigation considerations with a view to developing a unified approach. * Fault Sequence Group assessment consequence and Initiating Event Frequency calculations for planned work activities at a proposed Lidding / De-Lidding Facility at Berkeley (to deal with Fuel Element Debris); assessment of Safety Measures and Safety Functional Requirements. * Comparative assessments of 2007 and 2010 Berkeley AWV inventories and author of R3 Containerised Waste Review. Responsible for checking worker/public dose consequence calculations, Environmental Impact and Internal/External Hazard reports. * For the Dounreay Site Closure Safety Case, produced a Hazard Analysis (HAZAN) relating to direct dose consequences for faults (mitigated/ unmitigated) associated with managing and clearing the site. Also, responsible for checking a resulting Safety Case report covering all HAZAN assessments.* For the Dounreay Shaft and Wet Silo project, responsible for checking consequence calculations for inventories including sealed sources; provided a review of assessment work undertaken to date with future recommendations. Became knowledgeable about Waste Package Specifications for containers proposed for Dounreay Intermediate Level Waste and the IAEA Transport Regulations.* Reviewed an NDA report regarding a framework for assessing land affected by radioactive contamination using a tiered assessment approach. Provided contaminated land transport modelling assessment contributions to the successful Magnox RSRL PBO bid.
