Responsible for all Soft FM provision and activities over a widely dispersed estate across five counties of the North West of England & the Isle of Man covering the activities of 425 military reserve and uniformed cadet organisations. I also manage a fleet of more than 100 vehicles including cars, light commercial vehicles, agricultural vehicles, plant and equipment, including an increasing number of electric and alternative fuel vehicles. Having spearheaded the introduction of small Unmanned Aerial Systems, I am now chief pilot and flying instructor of our fleet of aircraft which we use for still image and HD video capture, principally for estate condition surveys, PR and marketing.

Led the project start-up to establish a town development trust to act as a catalyst for future economic regeneration in a severely disadvantaged part of Wales. Negotiated project initiation with local authority and national (Welsh) Government agencies establishing partnerships to attract funding and ensure long-term success.Devised innovative, business oriented models to acquire and redevelop town centre property, attracting small/medium businesses and thereby developing sustainable, ‘bottom-up’ economic regeneration.Key Achievement:Successfully guided stakeholders into agreement for the local approach to economic recovery, coalescing views into an effective, agreed strategy welcomed at ministerial level.

Royal Air Force Valley

Member of the senior leadership team. Cross departmental monitoring and functional assessment of service level agreements. Strategic leadership of major projects with external partners whilst ensuring vital operational functions continued unhindered despite often conflicting demands. Leadership of external stakeholder management with respect to tactical liaison issues across emergency service, military and local authority agencies. Generating proposals and procedures for agreement and implementation concerning national and regional events, major incident planning and disaster response.Management of complex capital and revenue budgets. Creating business cases for additional resources and managing budget projects to approval at departmental level. I also had significant exposure to media projects, image and reputation management and was a principle spokesperson for Defence issues in North Wales including crisis and disaster news management.Key Achievement:Devised and led the Anglesey Airport project. Over a significant period I negotiated the project through many political, legal, administrative and financial roadblocks, finally opening the first new airport in the Principality for many years.

Senior management of the delivery of operations centre output and the sponsoring and implementation of operational strategy. Monitoring performance and effectiveness against agreed standards, effecting change where necessary and reporting to the executive board.Managed 80 personnel challenged with a substantial range of tasks and duties to support and deliver the business plan. Authored the Major Incident Control Plan in respect of aviation related disaster planning across the North Wales area of responsibility. Generated and directed major regional disaster planning exercises with all branches of emergency services and civil agencies.Supervised business continuity planning across a complex military/industrial site.Transformed a moribund approach to the administration of an annual capital equipment budget of more than £1.2m, through devolved responsibility to those best placed to achieve vital savings. Challenged members of the senior leadership team to create ongoing efficiencies in capital, revenue and personnel through business process improvements, I achieved year on year savings of my equipment and personnel budgets.Key Achievement:Grew a small, ineffective department into a ‘fit for purpose’ organisation by identifying key skills and areas for growth before proposing and driving through sweeping changes to responsibilities, direction and budget. The resulting organisation became the benchmark for all other similar business units in the Royal Air Force.
