In this role, I was responsible for developing the first Business Opportunities Advisory Group, sponsored by the COO and consisting of the COO, three Auckland Council Executives, Commercial and Finance Manager and relevant General Managers. I developed new initiatives focused on positive financial returns for Auckland Council by leveraging assets and engaging strategic external stakeholders, and presented these ideas to the Advisory Group. I was responsible for the management and consolidation of existing Council-owned commercial business and commercial leases whilst increasing profitable non-rates revenue opportunities within these businesses. Some of my key achievements in this position have included creating the integrated Auckland Council ‘Holiday Places’ portfolio, an interconnected portfolio which grew out of three individual holiday parks, 30 Regional Park campgrounds, 22 regional baches and a derelict backpacker hostel, and successfully launching a pilot ‘Glamping’ initiative, a concept that had been discussed for a decade but had not been implemented.I obtained positive Local Community Board engagement through regular reporting on a number of the businesses I managed, showing that local commercial businesses can deliver on community outcomes. Local board members commented that they are now able to focus on governance and the direction for the community due to the trust and respect gained from my advice and updates to them. In addition, I created the ‘Farms of the Future’ initiative after seeing an opportunity to promote Auckland as potentially the biggest urban farm in New Zealand or the world. 'Farms of the Future’ is also proposed as an APEC 2021 key workshop opportunity.

In this role I was responsible for the successful delivery of strategic projects for the Operations Division and providing project management expertise and support to projects within the Operations Division and wider Council.Key achievements included acting as inaugural staff representative on the Auckland Council Operations Directorate Lead team, assisting with designing the Development Programme Office and serving on the feedback panel for establishing the new structure for Community Facilities and Community Services within the Operations Division.I also provided strategic advice and support to the GM within the Development Programme Office and created the regional work programme whilst identifying current delivery risks, issues and opportunities. In addition, I led the development of the Forward Land and Infrastructure Programme Portal business case for the delivery of a geospatial software solution for the Development Programme Office.As well as this, I played an active role in the conceptual design and creation of the Auckland Council Central Risk Fund and the concept of the Local Board Work Programme pipeline. This was presented by our COO and GM of Finance, to the Governing body and the Local Boards Chair forum.

In this role I was responsible for providing leadership and effective management of the Excellence and Innovation function in order to establish a framework for excellence and innovation across Infrastructure and Environmental Services.Some of my key achievements included leading the development and roll-out of the Project Management Gateway process and supporting roles, building strong internal relationships to foster an open culture focused on innovation and business improvement and leading the development and implementation of strategies for continuous improvement and innovation in IE&S. I also developed and maintained a broad range of cross-Council relationships to facilitate successful projects and ensured a sound internal control environment in which risks and issues raised by audit were promptly addressed.

In this role I was responsible for supporting the Manager - Business Services with transforming the way the department did business whilst fostering a culture of continuous improvement.My key achievements included managing strategic departmental projects and initiatives involving multiple Council and external stakeholders, representing IE&S on cross-organisational teams and Auckland Council transformation projects including the Gateway Process, Business Support review and enhanced realignment and ensuring that best practice project management models were adopted and implemented by the department, including mentoring staff through planning, prioritising and monitoring methodologies. I also developed and maintained a broad range of cross-Council relationships to facilitate successful projects and identified and prioritised business improvements across IE&S to drive improvements in cost and efficiency.

In this role I was engaged as a Project Manager for the Stage 2 Implementation of the Waste Management and Minimisation Plan and for departmental special projects.My key achievements included delivering all relevant contractual documentation for a major waste collection contract, including standard operating procedures, insurances, bonds, health and safety plans, and gaining contract approval from Legal, Procurement, Waste Operations and the Chief Executive Officer.

In this role I was engaged in a consulting capacity to assist with reviewing of the company strategy, investigating and setting up the delivery of business improvement opportunities. My key achievements including working with company directors on reviewing financial and company data to ascertain business opportunities, generating ideas for future business and business improvement opportunities, establishing the business strategy and delivery programme and project planning the company relocation, process and system optimisation. I also oversaw consultation with and engagement of company staff in the process and system changes.

In this role I was engaged as a Project Manager / Business Analyst for departmental special projects. My key achievements included negotiating a departmental relocation, despite initial strong internal resistance from other stakeholders, and ensuring that staff were satisfied that equity was retained across departments in a multi-storey building including a review of IT/IS and fleet future requirements. I also managed a resolution to a prolonged building air conditioning issue by liaising with internal departments, staff and disgruntled external suppliers and contractors.In addition, I was responsible for the cross-referencing of all Auckland Transition Agency data with Infrastructure and Environmental Services data as part of the agreed change process and designing and creating a single departmental data set for over 400 staff capturing all relevant data to provide real time reporting for senior management on staff resource, office accommodation and fleet utilisation.I also built relationships with all Unit Managers and Senior Management to ensure seamless communication regarding all building and relocation issues.

Key achievements included successfully establishing a new business from a start-up, developing company-wide systems and processes to ensure adherence to best practice and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting to the company accountant. I also recruited, supervised, trained and developed new consultants and staff members and project-managed multi-site remedial repairs on behalf of clients involving investigation and report writing, provision of the scope of work and monitoring and project management of repair and construction process.
