I developed new initiatives focused on positive financial returns for Auckland Council by leveraging assets and engaging strategic external stakeholders, and presented these ideas to the Advisory Group. I was responsible for the management and consolidation of existing Council-owned commercial business and commercial leases whilst increasing profitable non-rates revenue opportunities within these businesses. Some of my key achievements in this position have included creating the integrated Auckland Council ‘Holiday Places’ portfolio, an interconnected portfolio which grew out of three individual holiday parks, 30 Regional Park campgrounds, 22 regional baches and a derelict backpacker hostel, and successfully launching a pilot ‘Glamping’ initiative, a concept that had been discussed for a decade but had not been implemented.I obtained positive Local Community Board engagement through regular reporting on a number of the businesses I managed, showing that local commercial businesses can deliver on community outcomes. Local board members commented that they are now able to focus on governance and the direction for the community due to the trust and respect gained from my advice and updates to them. In addition, I created the ‘Farms of the Future’ initiative after seeing an opportunity to promote Auckland as potentially the biggest urban farm in New Zealand or the world. 'Farms of the Future’ is also proposed as an APEC 2021 key workshop opportunity.
