About Mark Edwards

Specializing in the analysis, design, and implementation of business and data systems using Microsoft Access/VBA, SQL Server/T-SQL, Excel, Word, Outlook and related technologies for business and industry. I specialize in fixing existing Access/SQL: Server applications, or designing/building them from scratch, and everything in between. I also support independent Office/VBA developers. I have extensive, verifiable expert experience in: -Analyzing business and data processes and designing systems for process automation. -Fixing & rebuilding existing Access & SQL Server database applications as well as designing new ones from the ground-up. -Converting complex Excel applications to RDMS and business automation systems. -Integrating other platforms and applications with Access/SQL Server/VB applications. Please visit http://vbaofficesolutions.com for a full range of products and services. Microsoft Office and related technologies, with their rapid application development & agile programming capabilities, could - in the right hands - provide small-scale mission critical products, and technologies to businesses in the private sector much quicker and more economically than the standard costly, time-consuming development methods.Military Experience: Experienced with working in large, technical operations and dealing with high-ranking, demanding ship captains and battle group commanders. I created programs in the Basic programming language on IBM desktop computers to handle deployed units with a $2.5 million operations budget. I performed the in-house alpha-testing on the military's first desk-top program for avoiding observance by spy satellites. I worked with Sky Lab astronaut Dale Gardner to develop and train reservists for the Alternate Space Defense Operations Center, earning the Navy Achievement Medal.

Hired by the new unit director along with other developers to develop a series of professional automation tools to replace multiple, small Access databases and Excel applications built by former unit accountants. The system was built with Microsoft Office 2013 and SQL Server Express 2014, and operated in a Citrix Remote App environment so that it could be operated from anywhere.• Onbook Reserves Processing System: Originally consisting of 9 Access databases and 3 Excel VBA applications, I analyzed and condensed all Onbook processing into one Access database UI and SQL Server Express database system, capable of meeting all Sarbanes-Oxly data processing and retention requirements and reducing issues, errors and processing time to less than one hour vs. several days. • Offbook Reserves Processing System: Designed and built one VB application based on Microsoft Office and SQL Server to mine and extract data for use in an Access VB application that eliminated the need for manual research and reliance on outdated printed reference materials, thereby increasing the reliability of information and drastically reducing the time needed by designers to create their data files. • For both applications, I developed a VB module running VBA automation code that could quickly and accurately import, troubleshoot, and edit the content of dozens of Excel spreadsheets of many various data formats to ensure quality ETL upload to engineering database systems.• For both applications, developed an Excel VBA process for calculating and displaying data in pivot tables and charts.• For both applications, developed a VBA process for populating Excel templates with data for upload to the Oracle financial system.

This enabled the designers to more accurately match design data to the screens and controls on the engineering software. In addition, I designed and built two VB applications based on Microsoft Office to analyze the data in two SQL Server database enterprise systems so that new product designers could include the engineering data format in their design data extracts for the purpose of creating ETL files for ready upload into engineering database systems. Also, I developed a VB application running Excel VBA automation code to quickly and accurately import, analyze, and edit the content of dozens of Excel spreadsheets for ETL upload to engineering database systems.

This integration was achieved using cross-process dlls, VB components, and the Windows API.--Additional Access applications were built to process shipping orders and create client deliverables.--In late 1999, it was decided that a robust, scalable VB 6.0 application had to be developed because of the company's growth. The application was to be a 3-tier, thin-client, distributed VB 6.0 application using SQL Server 7.0 as the data store, and Seagate Crystal Reports 6 as the reporting technology. The application would run on three IBM R4500 servers with RAID 5 configurations and Citrix Metaframe Terminal Server, and all three centers would operate from the same server farm. Working with a development team, I developed COM components (ActiveX DLLs and ActiveX controls) designed to interface the predictive dialer system with the call center's VB database and minor Access database applications.
