This is my 8th year as a middle school math teacher! I currently teach at Synapse School, a TK-8 independent school in Menlo Park, CA with a mission of Educating a Community of Change Makers. Synapse is a leader in the teaching of leading edge academics, innovation and social-emotional learning. While at Synapse, for the last four and a half years, I have taught middle schoolers in grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 in mathematics. I currently teach a mixed-grade, mixed-ability classroom of 5th and 6th graders as well as a variety of elective classes in the realms of STEAM and literacy. I also organize and manage other aspects of our math program, including community math circles, math competitions, and an after school math program. Before Synapse, I taught for three years at Dolores T. Aaron Academy (DTA), a public charter school in New Orleans, LA through placement and partnership with the Teach For America Program. While at DTA, I taught 7th grade math and science for a year, followed by two years teaching 7th and 8th grade special education math.I hold a B.S. in Energy Engineering from Penn State University and received my level 1 teaching certificate in Louisiana through The New Teacher Project (TNTP).
