Operations Specialist for SGP & AMF3

Currently deployed on the TRACER campaign in Houston, TX

Supporting the work of Dr. Gary Morris in Atmospheric Sciences and air quality measurements as a full-time staff research assistant at St. Edward's University Department of Natural Sciences.Responsibilities include the following:• Secure necessary quotes and order supplies from vendors to support funded research projects.• Maintain, operate, and calibrate the research group's air quality measurement equipment.• Condition and calibrate ozonesonde instruments. Assemble balloon train and release weather balloons to measure ozone and meteorological variables. Analyze data. Retrieve payloads. Recondition and repair recovered payloads.• Ensure delivery of data to funding agencies, national and international databases, and the SEU Data Archive.• Assist with data analysis.• Assist with project planning.• Engage in regular group research meetings and assist with mentoring of student research group members.• Assist in training of new research group members and collaborators on instrument operation, repair, and calibration, especially of ozonesondes and radiosondes.• Assist with report and manuscript writing, including generating appropriate figures.• Interface with government agencies as necessary regarding environmental measurement programs, including balloon sounding and mobile laboratory operations.• Travel to partner sites for training and to support field campaigns.

I install, maintain, and troubleshoot data sets from a wide array of meteorological instruments including the following:- Eddy Flux Covariance Gas Storage Exchange- Eddy Flux Covariance Gas Turbulent Exchange- NADP Wet Deposition Collector- DFIR Primary Precipitation Gauge- Secondary Tipping Bucket Precipitation Gauge- Soil CO2 Sensors- Soil Heat Flux Sensors- Soil Temperature Profile Sensors- Through-fall Precipitation Gauges- Soil H2O Sensors- Phenology Camera Streams- 2D/3D Sonic Anemometer- IR Broadband Apogee Sensor- Aspirated Air Temperature Probes- Barometer- Humidity/ Temperature Combined Probe- Spectral Photometer with Sun Tracking- Long Wave Radiation Sensor Array

Responsible for analysis of archived data setsWork with ozone, sulfur dioxide, wind, atmospheric pressure, cloud cover, precipitation, temperature, and humidity records to uncover teleconnections in North America

Provided weekly weather forecasts as well as a column on ongoing weather phenomena.

Developed graphic pieces for the Chicago Tribune forecast pageUsed data sets and operational forecasting tools to aid in development of on-air forecasts

Trained a staff of >100 employees technical lifesaving techniques and first aid.

Train for and assist in aquatic emergencies.
