I represented ENGILITY with the US Department of State in the planning, set-up, launch, and day-to-day management of ACOTA (Africa Contingency Operations Training & Assistance) Peacekeeping Support Operations (PSO) soldier skills training programs in several French-speaking African nations. Dec 2008 - Jul 2017

Security Operations Manager

Multi Country Security Solutions Group (Mcssg)

Uruzgan, Afghanistan

I represented MCSSG to the US Department of Defense and the US Army on a six-month contract as Security Operations Manager for SFOD-A FOB Tinsley in Afghanistan. As "Commander", I led a diverse team of 207, from rival ethic, religious and linguistic groups. Although technically a desk job, I gained the respect of my team by living as an Afghan, dressing as Afghan, living encamped with them, and patrolling with them. We secured Camp Tinsley, the town of Shahid-e-hasas, and a 30k stretch of the Helmand River. Despite engaging insurgents in armed combat almost daily and having lost several of my team members to IEDs (improvised explosive devices), by demonstrating my willingness to lead from the front, I built strong unit cohesion and high morale among my troops. I participated in local council meetings (shuras), and served as liaison to local government security forces too. In addition, I volunteered at a field hospital and participated in community outreach, and provided food and medical care to locals. Because I earned the trust of the locals, I was provided with actionable intelligence that led to the capture of a key bomb-maker and the interruption the IED supply chain. That helped the US Army to defeat IED proliferation in our area of operations. I assisted the FBI in a criminal investigation, conducting ballistics tests on weapons, and I learned to dispose of UXO (unexploded ordnance) by blasting in place (BIP). I also developed a database-driven application to manage HR functions, including payroll, inventory control, badging, documentation, and tracking of personnel. In this role I also personnel conducted cash-in-transit (CIT) operations, and I served as armorer in our armory of Soviet and British weapons. In that role I repaired and refitted unusable weapons and was able to restore them to usability and get them into the hands of our security force. I also conducted firing range operations and trained Australian soldiers to use AK-47 rifles.
