I left the Firm last year to explore challenging opportunities. I chaired the Firm's Litigation Practice Group for 10 years after lateraling from Thelen Reid. For the past 20 years, I have focused my practice on IP litigation, which broadly covers infringement cases, trade secrets, breach of contract and licensing issues, contract and licensing negotiations, and counseling on IP valuation. Forty years of trial and appellate experience, nave combined to teach me the critical need to distill the case to a simple, understandable and compelling story necessary to persuade both judges and juries. My patent infringement cases have covered a broad spectrum of technologies including biotechnology, electronics, software, medical devices, and footwear technology. I have litigated domain name cases, copyright issues, trademark issues, Lanham Act , false advertising matters, licensing and contract disputes, including government contract issues, and trade secret cases. Upon graduating law school, I clerked for the Honorable George M. Cochran, an associate justice for the Supreme Court of Virginia. I spent five years at the Dept. of Justice litigating complex technology and contractcomplex caseswhich gave me a valuable understanding how to help clients protect their ntellectual property rights when dealing with the government. An experienced appellate lawyer, I have appeared before the Federal Circuit, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, the Fourth Circuit, the Fifth Circuit, the Tenth Circuit and the North Carolina Supreme Court. I approach litigation from the client's business perspective: understanding the client's business objectives and how to get that point effectively and efficiently.
