Bonsai was founded with the vision of putting AI in the hands of every developer. Built on the insight that intelligent systems would, by design, need to be taught, we built out the complement technology to machine learning - machine teaching. The resulting end-to-end platform was built to be accessible not only to data scientists but also software engineers and subject matter experts. This abstraction facilitates and enables real world applications of ML technologies like deep reinforcement learning – allowing the creation of previously unrealizable intelligent controllers.Bonsai was acquired by Microsoft in 2018.

Zonix developed technology to enable software applications, physical resources, and related information services to be consumed in a managed, utility model. Zonix also provided consulting services for several internet properties including filmstaff.com and Meridian World Data.

To facilitate the creation of a new startup company utilizing the Numenta Platform for Intelligent Computing (NuPIC), Numenta and I agreed to have me work as an intern for a six month engagement. During this period I worked on the platform itself as well as the core learning algorithms. At the conclusion of the engagement, we mutually agreed that the platform was not quite ready to support a dependent startup venture. NuPIC has subsequently been publicly released as an open source project.

Following their participation in the Yale Entrepreneurial Institute (during which I was a mentor), I agreed to serve as an advisory board member for GXStudios, the company behind the online games GoCrossCampus, GoCrossOffice, and PickTeams.

I designed and built hardware, hardware interfaces, and software systems used by neuroscientists to conduct research into the inner workings of the brain. Requirements for this research required sub-millisecond precision alignment of live brain recordings with automated, interactive experiments, and tooling for subsequent data analysis. The systems are currently in use at multiple universities and the NIH.

I was one of the initial team members for Perfect Fitness (the company responsible for the popular Perfect Pushup fitness product). Prior to pivoting to consumer fitness goods, Perfect Fitness was targeting high tech fitness equipment for military and professional sports use. I assembled the original engineering team that built out functional prototypes of accelerometer based fitness equipment and associated software. After the pivot, I built out the original consumer direct response website and logistics fulfillment integration.

Defined and managed the delivery of multiple releases of the iSpheres Platform and iSpheres Opportunity Manager to market, utilizing a development team based in three domestic and two international geographic locations. Responsibilities included: product strategy, requirements gathering, product definition, prototype creation, partnership management, development process oversight, internal evangelism, participation in marketing campaigns, and creation of sales collateral.

Held multiple positions (Software Design Engineer, Software Design Engineer in Test, Software Test Engineer, Microsoft Research University Relations Consultant) as an intern and contractor.In these roles I developed automated testing tools for Windows 95 and Internet Explorer (which required porting x86 assembly to C/C++ and MIPS, Alpha, and PPC assembly), wrote sample code shipping with the original DirectX SDK, implemented physical media image generation for the Internet Explorer Administration Kit, wrote large portions of the setup process for Internet Explorer Plus, implemented support for the W3C standard PICSRules and PICS (Platform for Internet Content Selection) in Internet Explorer, and promoted integration of Microsoft Windows NT and DevStudio with existing Unix platforms at the California Institute of Technology as part of the Microsoft Research University Relations program.

While an undergraduate at Caltech, I administered the Page House computer lab for approximately 120 students using Windows 95, Windows NT, Macintosh, and Sun Solaris workstations.

Wrote palette management code and served as a Windows platform advisor to assist in porting of children’s software originally designed for the Macintosh.

Implemented a DOS based customized database/billing program in C and C++.
