About Mark Doughty

My work involves supporting people often living with an illness/long term health condition, injury or disability to develop the mindset, behaviours and practices that enable them to fulfil their potential, realise their aspirations and achieve their goals. Most of my work is within the healthcare field supporting patients, service users & carers to become leaders, partners & agents of change working collaboratively with decision makers strategically and operationally across the system in order to influence the design, delivery and improvement of services ensuring the delivery of patient centred care.I work with healthcare professionals and leaders supporting them to develop systemic and relational leadership practices focused on improving the patient experience, and the quality of health and care services. I also work with people living & working with a illness, injury or disability (IID) to achieve their personal, professional and career aspirations & goals. My work is inspired and informed by my personal experience of developing long term health conditions beginning in my early 20's and learning to live with the associated ongoing changes in both my personal and work life. Outside of the the health sector I have worked with organisations such as EY, HSBC, Morgan Stanley, Citi, Barclays, KPMG, and Allen & Overy to build the leadership potential of their staff with IID's by offering one to one coaching, action learning and bespoke personal leadership and career development interventions.Specialties: Learning design, facilitation including large group interventions.Career, talent and leadership development of staff and people with IID's.Coaching (performance, development, transformational, leadership).Action learning. Using mindfulness, solution focus, appreciative inquiry, cognitive and positive psychology, in one to one or group interventions.

    The King'S Fund Jul 2016 - Jul 2024
My work is in the broad field of leadership and organisational development with a particular focus on working with leaders in the health and social care VCSE sectors. I support their strategic and system leadership work with the wider health and care system. I also work with health and care professionals to embed the patient, service user and citizen perspective and experience into their professional work at an operational level (eg service redesign) and at a strategic level - eg supporting healthcare organisations to collaborate and partner with their local communities.A particular interest of mine is in supporting individual leaders, teams and organisations from across the health and care system to build their collaborative and partnership working practices particularly in a time of VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity) I also enjoy developing shared leadership practices and supporting health and care professionals, other system leaders and patients, service users, carers and local community leaders to collaborate and partner together in pursuit of the vision of building healthy local communities. This provides the 'container' for my previous Patient Leadership work.To read about the work I am currently involved in with the VCSE sector and in building healthy communities please see https://www.kingsfund.org.uk/topics/voluntary-community-sectorTo read about my work on Patient Leadership please see:https://www.kingsfund.org.uk/topics/patient-leadership
