The project in total needs to come 6 months forward to meet the client needs. In January I took over from the previous project leader, at that time the project had 6 team members. To reach the deadlines the team needs to be increased to approximately 25 people. The ramp-up needs to be reached in 2 month time or the deadline will not be met.As SW Project Manager I am responsible for :Making a project plan that include at least: Budget Lead-time Quality Identify Risks Identify needed resources (Human and Non Human) Define communication structures Support team with proper estimation methods Discuss and negotiate functional needs Manage customers expectations Resource allocation and training Manage sub contractors CR/PR handling Manage intermediate demo’s and sub deliveries External communication Managing the team Project planning, tracking and control Migrating risks Manage budget, timing and functionality. Various reporting (internal and towards customers)Besides the tight time schedule a second challenging goal is set. This project needs to be CMMI Level 2 compliant if this is even possible with the legacy code currently used. The functionality is split overtime, with a very basic working radio in short time. Later additional functionality is added. Having a radio will grow customer’s confidence. The expectations from the customer and its client are high and need to be carefully managed. To make this project controllable iterative development is used. The product is build with legacy code, new development and modified components. The development is done on different locations including The Netherlands, Germany, UK, and Indian. As SW project manager I am responsible for outsourcing to the suppliers. Project at itself is not complex but the new time frame and the amount of suppliers and ‘New’ procedures makes it challenging.
