Digital Solutions DirectorBrass May 2010 - Mar 2012An integrated marketing agency with a digital marketing offering. I acted as senior digital marketing contact on a number of clients and projects and was the digital marketing consultant for in-house teams. Based in the Leeds office as well as the London Shoreditch office. -
Digital Client Services Director / Agency Operations DirectorMccann Manchester Sep 2003 - May 2010Manchester, United KingdomClient Services Director - Head of the Digital Marketing team, at McCann-i.With team of 30+ : designers, developers and account handlers.Colleagues Direct (see last role) sadly bit the dust and I boomeranged (happily) back to McCann. I was responsible for all aspects of digital marketing and online marketing campaigns and projects for a range of UK and International clients. This involved managing a team of account handlers, project managers, creatives and coders. Acting as a digital marketing consultant and also trainer for various teams. I also worked on new business initiatives, and business development in general and helped develop accounts, either working with integrated account handlers or direct with clients.I was responsible for financial targets and department profitability. The online team grew from 6 to 30+ in my time at McCann.Based in the Manchester office but working with / out of the London office and partner agencies globally, when required. As the site sales copy said:McCann Erickson / McCann-i is at the forefront of new trends, new technologies and new opportunities - new thinking that can drive our clients' digital communications strategies and maximise the potential of the digital medium.---In July 2009 I had a shift of emphasis from pure digital director to wider cross-agency operational management, ensuring that delivery of services across all areas of the business were integrated, effective and profitable. Based in the Manchester office but working with / out of the London office when required. -
Crm DirectorColleagues Direct Marketing Limited 2002 - 2003Bath And YorkshireIn which I jaunted up and down the M5 in a Saab95 - those crazy days of over-specced company cars. I'm not a petrol head and I love the planet, but man was that a good car to have when based in two offices at opposite ends of the country. I ran all aspects of the data analytics, database & online marketing and eCRM team and client services.Colleagues was a great agency with great people but sadly with one client dominating revenue. When they gave notice we never really recovered. It wasn't a case of the new boy, last-in, first-out: everyone lost their jobs. Sad times.

Database Marketing ManagerPoulter Advertising May 1993 - 2000I joined Poulters when they made me an offer I couldn't refuse (a car, more money and more of guaranteed revenue stream than I had been able to enjoy running my own show). The then Head of Direct at Poulters had been talking to me as a potential data partner. He eyed up the small but growing list of clients I had and suggested I join them. The timing was right even though I hadn't had my own business running for long. But my mum had just died, the family (my dad, brother and my own young family) were in pieces, so I said yes. At Poulters I looked after Database Strategy, Analytics, Technology for Marketing, Consumer Profiling, Data Segmentation, Lead Tracking Solutions and CRM. And the data aspect of Mailings on an industrial scale, with some of the region's biggest printers. Cue lots of corporate football tickets (I don't like football but did like the spectacle of it all. And the slap-up meals. Shallow but true. I'm probably more discerning nowadays. Probably).

Owner / DirectorMark Kelly Associates / Strategic Database Services 1991 - 1993Manchester And HalifaxI left ADS to set up as a freelance database analyst initially. This widened into campaign management and a technology-for-marketing consultancy for both agencies and direct clients, under the banner of Strategic Database Systems. My wife helped me part-time, essentially as an account manager with some new biz. We had our toddler and baby in the nursery across the road from the old clock shop that we rented and refurbed as an office in downtown Elland, West Yorkshire. Exciting times really.SDS sat ostensibly under the wing of an existing Elland agency, OCW, a full service agency set up by two ex-ADS (see elsewhere) directors. OCW were great little agency but my ADD got the better of me. Along with nervousness around not controlling my own company finances (always think twice about partnerships, kids). So I folded my own setup after a year or so and set up Mark Kelly Associates, renting space in a converted mill (the Napier Business Centre) from Steve Rubel, an ex-Agency guy who loved to smoke and do deals, he was great (the mill was demolished in 1996).

Database Marketing AnalystApplied Decision Systems 1988 - 1991Manchester, United KingdomI initially started at ADS Direct Marketing (a cutting edge Agency, we had actual computers and magnetic tape machines so we could merge and purge rented consumer data records). ADS then split into Applied Decision Systems (yes, still ADS) and MKP (Morgan Kemp and Partners, as was). These agencies have since disappeared.I was in the database analytics team, becoming senior database marketing exec before I left.I was knee-deep in floppy disks (both sizes), Supercalc spreadsheets and reams (and reams) of sales data printouts, vouchers and questionnaires that a room full of ladies up in Newcastle keyed in for us.

Marketing ExecMedia Sales Bureau Sep 1986 - 1988London, England Metropolitan AreaHave braces (yes, I did), will commute (on the central line).I did everything from preparing presentations to setting up a fledgeling PC network (err, 2 PCs) to running between Fleet Street and Long Acre (where the offices were). This was to ensure the senior sales and marketing team always had what they needed to keep the business moving forward. In other words, the kind of stuff any recent grad would be expected to do (albeit without the internet). A busy sales / retail-focused business and a great grounding in working hard (and playing hard, this was the 80's - hello pubs of covent garden) and always providing a top notch service to others.
