About Mark Leach

As vice president of media relations at First Command Financial Services, Inc., I engage in a thought-leadership strategy designed to provide journalists with timely consumer data on a variety of personal finance challenges and opportunities facing middle-class military families. I am committed to quickly and efficiently responding to the deadline-driven needs of members of news media, who regularly incorporate my firm’s research and analysis into their coverage of financial, economic and military issues.I’ve developed my skills as a professional communicator during three decades in journalism and PR. I have held editing and reporting positions in print publications including D Magazine, the Dallas Times-Herald, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, and the Fort Worth Business Press. My media relations efforts have generated mentions in a variety of news organizations (including the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and USA Today) and earned national recognition with a Bulldog Award for Excellence in Media and Public Relations. And I am the editor of Journey, a quarterly personal finance magazine that has earned awards from the International Association of Business Communicators, the Texas Public Relations Association and the Custom Publishing Council. My work is also informed at a more theoretical level by emerging trends in the field of conceptual writing, where I am pursuing a practice focused on exploring new ideas in language ideologies, crowdsourcing and aggregate authorship. Some of these ideas are on display in my book “Cutting Up Two Burroughs,” which has garnered attention on the Poetry Foundation’s Harriet news blog (http://www.poetryfoundation.org/harriet/2012/04/more-otherness-from-conceptual-literature/ ).Periodically I post information regarding my employer First Command Financial Services and the social media usage guidelines that apply to First Command also apply to my pages.
