I am a pragmatic conservative who believes, as Reagan did, that America is a shining city on a hill. We must pass on to the next generation an understanding that it is because of liberty that our nation is exceptional, and that the price of liberty is eternal vigilance. A team with trust in each other and grit can take on anything, and in order to have grit one must have hope. I am an optimist with a dollop of Irish fatalism to keep the optimism grounded in reality. Since joining Pacific Legal Foundation in 2014, I have specialized in property rights litigation and policy, and I played key roles in two important PLF wins at the Supreme Court: Weyerhaeuser v. United States Fish & Wildlife Service and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers v. Hawkes Co. In both cases, we secured unanimous victories for property owners against federal government overreach.At PLF, I lead our Right to Build Housing team. This team of public policy experts, strategic researchers, litigators, and scholars tackles the national housing affordability crisis with a focus on free-market solutions. We aim to increase the housing supply while ensuring homeowners can still set neighborhood rules free of government interference.I often appear in the media and testify before state legislative committees on property rights, constitutional law more generally, and the United States Supreme Court. My work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal and on CBS News, ABC’s The View, CBN, and Fox News. I am a regular guest for SiriusXM’s POTUS channel.In my spare time, I serve on the Boards of Directors for Americans United for Life (AUL) - the nation's leader in pro-life law and policy - and Farm of the Child USA ("Finca del Nino"). Finca del Nino is the recognized name for the children’s home, elementary and middle schools, and medical clinic in Trujillo, Honduras where orphan and foster children receive healing care from a team of Honduran staff, Franciscan sisters, and international missionaries. Farm of the Child USA is a non-profit organization whose primary purpose is to support Finca del Niño in Honduras.
