The Government of Montenegro has obtained a loan (Loan No IBRD 84280 ME) from the World Bank for the Industrial Waste Management and Clean-up Project (IWMCP) to remediate 5 selected industrial waste disposal sites and to manage the ongoing disposal of industrial hazardous waste.The IWMCP project aims to: (i) reduce the environmental and public health risks of selected 5 industrial waste disposal sites at 4 locations, through investments in environmental control measures and infrastructure for management of industrial waste; and (ii) strengthen institutional capacity to regulate and manage industrial and hazardous waste in compliance with Montenegrin legislation.The project consists of the following components:1. Remediation of historic industrial waste disposal sites (5 hot-spots: Bijela Adriatic Shipyard; Gradac lead-zinc mine tailing; Kombinat Aluminijuma Podgorica (KAP) red mud basins with KAP solid waste disposal site; and Pljevlja coal and ash disposal site)2. Future Industrial Hazardous Waste Management;3. Project Management.The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), under the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism (MSDT), will be the project implementation agency for the project, and would have the overall responsibility for project implementation. A Project Management Unit (PMU), established within the EPA, is going to serve for day-to-day project implementation, and to coordinate the project procurement activities with the Technical Service Unit (TSU).
