Investigating bacterial community structure within contaminated sites using molecular techniques and phylogenetic analysis with the view to assisting bioremediation. Before work could commence in the laboratory, I set the lab up from a shell with a sink and fume hood into a fully functioning molecular and microbiological research lab. I also provided support for a number of PhD students within the group.
