  • Productiv
    Vice President Of Strategic Alliances
    Productiv May 2021 - Jun 2023
    Palo Alto, California, Us
When I was COO of Touchcast, I kept a Google spreadsheet pinned to my bookmarks bar, which I worked in almost daily. The company had about 120 people, and part of my job was to manage a portfolio of over 50 SaaS applications, everything from Salesforce to Github. This "SaaS sprawl" was an absolute nightmare to manage. I had no idea how much we were spending on SaaS applications. We had to scrape contract details - if we could locate them - into the spreadsheet, try to tie in invoices from Quickbooks, and hand filter thousands of ambiguously coded credit card transactions into spend categories. Calendar reminders for renewal notifications went off like pipe bombs, randomly. Each app had a different administrator, usually the first person to have chosen a tool. And we had massive overlap: some people used Asana for project management, some used Trello, and still others used Monday. We paid for an enterprise license for nearly limitless storage in GDrive, but many people still separately expensed personal Dropbox accounts. User provisioning and de-provisioning was opaque. Security, same. Is that sketchy looking tool someone is using in Ukraine SOC2 certified? Probably not.So when my friend and former Google colleague Jody Shapiro launched Productiv I practically shouted my enthusiasm down the phone line from across the country, and when he wanted to talk about joining the team, I jumped.
  • Hudson Mx
Chief Commercial Officer & Chief Compliance Officer
    Hudson Mx Aug 2019 - May 2021

Simple math: lets say the global advertising industry accounts for somewhere between 1-2% of western economy's GDP. Then say 60-80% of that spend - everything from Google and Facebook, Local and National TV ads, billboards, print, the whole thing - is managed by the Big Six publicly traded advertising agency holding companies. Then, what if you realized that the underlying operating system through which all of that spend flows was built in 1968 and runs on mainframes; and you had the chance to join the management team of a fast growing, modern software company founded by the smartest guys in Adtech, what would you do?Exactly.

    Touchcast Jun 2013 - Jul 2019
    New York, Ny, Us
When Google was preparing to shut down our TV Ads business - which was profitable, and had enough revenue to IPO were it a standalone business - I hatched a plan to launch my own company. I had a solid, workable idea: a multi-channel network for independent journalists, but which published across multiple social platforms. I lined up a major news organization as the anchor tenant, and took the plunge. Then, a friend said I ought to meet TouchCast inventor/founder/CEO Edo Segal because his stealth tech company might power my idea. Edo asked me if I wanted to join him in London the following week to meet with the BBC. (I said no, I was heading to Milan to be a Gentleman of Leisure for awhile.) He agreed to fly me over, saying I could leave for Milan after the meeting.......which was with the top dozen or so leaders across the BBC's major divisions, perhaps the most influential executives in the industry, people who get to see everything new, and who had never seen anything like TouchCast! In the meeting, Edo introduced me as TouchCast's COO, and sent me into the hallway to do our first deal with the BBC's CTO. I told Edo I had a plane to catch. He said great, but can you work on our investor presentation while you're in Italy?

    Google Jul 2007 - Mar 2013
    Mountain View, Ca, Us
Business Development Executive and Publisher Sales Director for Google TV Ads. Google TV Ads brought "Big-data" and programmatic exchange buying to traditional television advertising. I was responsible for a $100+ million media supply chain organization reaching half of US TV households and spanning dozens of cable distributor and programming partnerships, data suppliers and technology vendors. Pitched my first deals to Larry, Eric & Sergey, learned the Google method from some of the smartest people in tech. Personally negotiated Google’s partnership agreement with NBCU, a deal which AdAge described as “…one of those deals that might one day be marked on a timeline of historic moments in the TV industry.” Led a team of all-stars, each of whom went on to do great things.
  • Deloitte & Touche
Chief Of Staff, Media & Entertainment Practice
    Deloitte & Touche Jan 2004 - Jun 2007
    Worldwide, Oo
Chief of Staff to Americas Managing Partner for Media & Entertainment where I helped manage a $450 million multi-disciplinary professional services practice. Selected for prestigious Management Development Program for partnership candidates. Previously at Deloitte, I was a Senior Manager in the Media & Entertainment Strategy & Operations Consulting practice where I led large-scale corporate strategic planning, operations improvement and technology systems integration projects. Learned and applied "Disruptive Innovation" theory under Michael Raynor, Clay Christensen's disciple. Worked on many of the large media industry LBOs of this era, as well as post-merger integration projects.
  • Bearingpoint
    Senior Manager
    Bearingpoint Jul 2002 - Feb 2003
    Amsterdam, Nl
The predecessor company to BearingPoint, KPMG Consulting, acquired several Arthur Andersen practices. I continued as a Management Consultant in Digital Media Operations and Technology, until another former Andersen partner recruited me to join Deloitte & Touche.
  • Arthur Andersen Business Consulting
    Senior Manager
Arthur Andersen Business Consulting Jun 1999 - Jun 2002
After finishing my MBA, I was recruited to co-found the Digital Content Consulting practice at Arthur Andersen. This global team assisted diversified Media & Entertainment conglomerates through the Digital Transition with strategic planning, operations consulting and technology implementation services for producing, managing, distributing and licensing digital media content. I traveled the world advising media & entertainment companies on the coming digital disruption, and built a global professional services practice. We were on a roll until we were brought low by the parent firm's role in the Enron collapse. One highlight was helping Li Ka-Shing launch his internet businesses in Hong Kong, which went from initial concept to IPO in 90 days (!) Low point was watching the bankruptcy trustees take the leased corporate artwork off Andersen's office walls at the end.
  • Msnbc
Producer - The News With Brian Williams
    Msnbc May 1996 - Jun 1999
    New York, New York, Us
Halfway through my MBA at Columbia, I got the call to join a start-up news organization, a JV between NBC News and Microsoft. We did our rehearsals in the lunchroom at the CNBC studios, then within days of our launch were thrown into covering the Olympic park bombing in Atlanta and the crash of TWA flight 800. For the next three years I covered every major news event - from the '96 Presidential election to the Columbine shootings, while finishing my MBA part-time. I learned more from any single day in the field with Brian Williams than anything I had done before.
  • Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
    Producer
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation May 1989 - Sep 1995
    Toronto, Ontario, Ca
During my summer internship, was inspired by Dan Rather covering Tiananmen Square, and switched majors from print to broadcast. As copy clerk, made popcorn for Peter Mansbridge, ran scripts around the building, written with typewriters on 7-part carbon paper. After graduation, worked on the launch of Newsworld, CBC's 24-hour all-news network. Worked my way up from researcher, writer, associate producer, to producer for "The National", the CBC's marquee nightly newscast. Learned most of my enduring life lessons in a newsroom. Proudest accomplishment: unmasking a Rwandan war criminal hiding out in Montreal. Won awards as a producer for CBC Current Affairs. Would not have spent my twenties any other way.
  • The York Tribune; The Orangeville Citizen
    Staff Reporter
The York Tribune; The Orangeville Citizen Feb 1988 - Sep 1988
Ever since I was a teenager, the only thing I ever wanted to be was a journalist. Covered cops, courts and City Hall for weekly community newspapers. Sent my clippings to the HR department at the Hamilton Spectator, who called me back to say: "You have no idea what you're doing, do you?" So I applied to journalism school.
