I returned to National Grid to join the IS programme upgrading the system that balances national electricity demand with the supply of power from generators across the UK. I successfully managed the implementation of changes to systems interfacing with the functional core of the application. September 2015 - Feb 2017Over the full software development life cycle, I directed infrastructure, development (on- and off-shore), test, deployment, and business teams to ensure that consequential changes to interfaces arising from the upgrade were fit for purpose and that switching between the old and new systems was performed without loss of service.Feb 17 - April 17Off work following a minor heart attack. Now fully recovered.May17 - March 18Programme Release Manager:I have been managing the release cycle for a major system development. From scoping through development and testing to deployment I have had oversight of release processes. I have managed relationships with suppliers and internal teams successfully improving the quality and reliability of the application.Risks, issues, tasks, defects, changes etc were all managed using the IBM Jazz suite of web based tools.My contract is ending on 31st March due to a limit of two years imposed by senior management on the tenure of contract staff.

BP is a global oil and petro-chemical company engaged in oil exploration, refining, marketing and in the pursuit of renewable forms of energy for the future. Work here included:• Initiation phase of project to replace a global incident management system. Project handed over to US PM after selection of vendor who is US based. • Regulatory compliance management system using a COTS package to assure BP that IT assets are compliant with various external regulations. Currently in a UAT phase having completed vendor selection and functional design specification and configuration. • IT related expenditure, embedded within business departments, is being brought into the BP IT organisation. I am running a project to bring Indirect Procurement systems under the BP IT umbrella. It involves discovering roles of embedded staff, interfaces between departments and systems, ASP contract details and then, in consultation with application support staff, devising and executing the transition plan.

Third party on-shore and off-shore developer management.• Transfer of support for key service billing systems from local to offshore (India). Knowledge transfer, confidence building, managing internal experience loss.• Significant software re-engineering taking a portfolio of systems through transition to electricity trading arrangements (NETA) including setup of systems for data feeds to an energy exchange company.• Designed, installed, commissioned specialised frequency monitoring equipment and data capture systems at several UK power stations. • Managed Y2K assurance for National Grid IS. Confirmed Y2K compliance for all business and operational software systems and associated infrastructure. • Numerous other small/medium projects designing, developing, deploying 3-tier systems both in web and client server environments using in-house and third party staff. Contributions made to Prince2 Delivery Excellence (best practice) forum. Mentor to junior project managers.
