Project Manager responsible for a number of plant facilities related projects geared to reduce energy consumption and improve process productivity. Developed new design concepts and project requirements. Generated RFQ packages and analyzed bid packages for contractor selection. Directed multiple outside contractors in the installation of simultaneous projects while coordinating these activities without disrupting plant production.Examples of projects include:Installation and precision alignment of redesigned steam tubes for increased carbon fiber production. Installation and precision alignment of newly designed coagulation bath guide details for carbon fiber quality improvements. Developed a new tool and method that significantly reduced alignment time and adjustment of these guide details. Installation of new vacuum pumps and instrumentation in the chemical recovery area to replace existing steam-powered equipment for a significant energy savings. Design and installation of a pneumatic lift mechanism to raise and lower insulated covers over chemical baths for significant energy savings. Previously, the covers were bulky, difficult to handle, and not being used. Design and installation of new piping and control valves to provide additional cooling capacity and more accurate temperature control for 45°C process water tank. Project provided greater process stability and improved product quality. Installation of new dock doors and dock levelers at plant shipping and receiving docks.Pump redesign and replacement for improved performance. Show less

Developed and maintained all Configuration Management documents and overall product and process quality benchmarks for these components.Led the implementation of new product programs and maintained ISO16949 certification in these areas. Instrumental in the installation and qualification of $20M of new equipment to machine power steering pump housings from aluminum castings. The state of the art equipment combined transfer machine capacity with CNC precision and flexibility, and produced two finish machined housings every 12 seconds (10,000 pieces per day). Installation was completed on time, and six-sigma process capability was achieved on all 132 product dimensions. Received Six-Sigma Green Belt certification for completing a project saving $225K annually in tooling costs for a deep-hole drilling operation on steering racks. This one item was the single most costly tooling expense for the plant. Savings was achieved using a three-pronged approached. Optimized tool life by adjusting machine parameters. Analyzed price and performance of new tools versus retipped tools, and concluded retips to be significantly less costly to use. Prioritized the disbursement of retipped tooling before new tooling. Also, sought and obtained a price concession from the deep-hole tooling supplier. Rearranged valve body equipment into a lean manufacturing cell for a labor savings of two people ($250K/yr.). Prior to rearrangement the five machines were scattered throughout the department, resulting in interrupted material flow, under-utilization of machines and operators, and complex scheduling difficulties. Rearrangement into a lean cell permitted a single operator to control the flow of all material and run each piece of equipment as needed. Show less
