In this independent research project I was employed by 3M Peltor to examine the human ability to identify sounds. Synthesizing existing knowledge in the field of psychoacoustics, situational awareness and method design, I developed a method for measuring accuracy and certainty of identification responses by test subjects wearing a hearing protection device in a noisy environment. The project ran through experimental design, setup, implementation, and analysis, before resulting in a method informing 3M Peltor on product performance and experience when evaluating new products.

I was part of a team employed by Norsk Hydro and Einar Hareide to explore the possibilities of using aluminium’s unique mechanical and experiential properties as reinforcement for concrete. This technology push for innovation used material driven design principles in an extensive iterative cycle of exploration, prototyping and feedback, where I had special responsibility for creative workshops, method compliance and coordinating as well as communicating with all external stakeholders. The project resulted in a product family of vehicle barriers used in the fight against terrorism.

In the project I conducted user surveys, interviews, designed wireframes and digital prototypes used for user testing and product evaluation. The project resulted in an app where co-workers can socialize and where positive habits are encouraged through playfulness, competitiveness, and communion.

I conducted contextual research, facilitated creative workshops, and prototyped as well as evaluated conceptual solutions.
