I am the Head of AI of the Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology and the LAB University of Applied Sciences, jointly the LUT Group.By professional background, I am an executive; a strategy and digitization professor (more below), researcher, and author; a consultant; and a PE investor. I have been strongly active in developing and transforming business via those roles.My corporate experience includes division-wide responsibility for several functions in the technology business. I have experience also from PE and other investing in the technology, healthcare, and further sectors. As an Aalto University Executive in Residence, I led Aalto Health Platform (an institute of 100+ professors), innovation unit Aalto Health Factory, some partnerships like HUS, and the development of Aalto's university-wide Global Business and Health strategic focus (platform) areas.My work orientation is to develop value by helping grow, AI-develop, and otherwise transform organizations (incl. importantly via DX, process and org development, and M&A). Dominant contents in my work are Gen and traditional AI, strategy, analytic management, platforms, and enterprise agility.My functional experience: strategy, technology strategy, digitization, process reinvention (with and without an agile SW tinge), business development and sales, and services.Geographies: I have worked in Finland, the US (CA, NY, PA...), the UK, and Norway. I also know rather well the Chinese, Indian, and further business environments and cultures.Before Aalto, I was Head of Business Development globally for Wärtsilä Corporation's Services P&L (net sales EUR 2bn; 11500 people; 70+ facility countries).Before that, I was Director, Business Development of the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra (PE).Formerly, I was Professor of Software Development (from 2005, Ordinarius from 2007) and Head of the Center for Software Business and Engineering at the University of Turku and the Director of the Turku Center for Computer Science's Product Development Laboratory. I was also in the early 2000s Research Director at Helsinki University of Technology and had 5 more junior roles 2001-2004.I worked in 2003-2017 at times (counting the formalized faculty visits) at Stanford, the Wharton School, Columbia Business School, NYU, UC Berkeley, and LSE, and earlier for Morgan Stanley in London.My Ph.D.'s are in strategy (software business) and in entrepreneurial finance.I was Business Fellow and Junior Fellow of the Finnish Business and Policy Forum (EVA) and Academy of International Business Haynes Prize awardee.
