She's never seen a dead man up close before. She moves toward him as if she doesn't want to wake him from his sleep. His clothes and face are completely covered inblood. The crimson flow from under his head almost touches her shoes, but she steps out of its path. "I wish I could have helped you. I'm sorry. I'm very sorry."Birdy didn’t hear the man come back around the corner."Hey! Hey, you. Come here you little rat. What are you doing?” comes the loud voice from the end of the alley. The thug is walking back in her direction.The alley isn’t very wide, and she knows she can’t get past him.Birdy runs as fast as she can down the alley in the opposite direction, but to her dismay, there is a fence blocking her escape.pg8(end excerpt)
