Concessions Manager
As a concessions manager at the Pepsi Center, I help balance a regular office schedule with a rigorous year round schedule of NBA, NHL, and NLL games, concerts, and other events. For these many events I help with any team promotions through our beverage and food services, as well as working with local food businesses looking to sell their products in the stadium atmosphere. Prior to the events, I hire and train our hourly employees as well as helping to maintain and improve our stands to better serve the customer. During the events, I help solve problems as they occur, help with customer service, maintain quality of service throughout the building, and adjust our service accordingly with requests from our customers and our client. One of my main projects during this year was a new checkout kiosk system called Mashgin. I worked closely with the owners of the company to blend their machine with the needs of our customers. I helped launch and grow the checkout kiosks until they had met 50% of our sales with half the cost in labor. The new project allowed me to enhance my real time problem solving skills, and it also allowed me to practice my customer relations skills by helping transition from the traditional to the new. I also was able to practice my training skills by helping our employees learn how to use the machines.
The Project 2017
Participated in a semester long student competition to help a local community plan a community garden using professional project management practices. Spent over 5 hours a week on top of a full time class schedule putting together a portfolio of plans for our community. Worked closely with the communities representative to ensure that they were with us every step of the project as well as ensuring their needs were met for the final product. In close for the project, my team presented to a panel of project management professionals as well as the board for the community at a local town meeting.
External Relations Intern
During my time as an external relations intern, I put together weekly "Superior Athlete of the Week" social media pieces using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and InDesign). I also used Adobe Creative Suite to promote game day participation, game time entertainment, and other athletic department announcements. I worked with both Division I Hockey and our other Division II sports to give our fans an insight to the personalities of our athletes to give additional video entertainment during sporting events. I also helped with general event management by helping organize game day promotions, giveaways, and other promotional projects. During my time as an intern, I also was able to fine tune my social media skills by posting real time updates during all of our sporting events and using Adobe Creative Suite to enhance the posts. I also helped launch our text messaging service where students could request alerts for game updates or promotions for their favorite sports.
