I'm Marq Mitchell (he/him), the founder and Lead Steward of Chainless Change, Inc. (CCI), a grassroots organization in South Florida addressing mass incarceration through advocacy, community organizing, and direct service. Beyond being a recovery community for individuals impacted by an arrest history and one or more behavioral health conditions, CCI serves as a powerful platform for justice-impacted people to get involved in organizing to end mass incarceration.Before Chainless Change, I spent years volunteering for local organizations, working to reduce recidivism by providing advocacy and support for at-risk youth and other underserved subpopulations involved with the criminal legal system. I currently serve on several local and statewide advocacy boards and initiatives dedicated to ending mass incarceration. As a board member of the Our Fund Foundation, I also work to increase access to resources for BIPOC-led, LGBTQ-serving organizations in South Florida.I have been fortunate to receive recognition for my work, including being named a 2022 Echoing Green Fellow, a 2022 Voqal Fellow, and a 2021 Roddenberry Fellow. In 2021, I received the Radical Partners' Neighborhood Hero Award and The Sentencing Projects' Race and Justice Award. I was also honored to be named Broward Young Democrats' Trailblazer of the Year in 2020.

I also nurture cross-sector relationships, raising awareness of social issues relating to the criminal legal system and identifying partner organizations for our recovery-oriented system of care. Lastly, I am responsible for ensuring our team is professionally trained and can harness both their skills and lived experience to bolster our organizational priorities and values.
