Marshal has been involved in medical device innovation for over 25 years, most recently leading Breethe Inc through the development of a wearable artificial lung system to provide both cardiac and pulmonary support and resulting in a successful exit. Marshal also led the development and commercialization of the ZOLL LifeVest, the first and only wearable defibrillator for patients at risk of sudden cardiac death, and continues to work with Asahi Kasei/ZOLL Medical to support business development efforts. Prior to this, he held a wide range of positions with IBM, with responsibilities including hardware and software development, industrial design, systems integration, and new business development. Among other projects, Marshal led the development of the IBM Simon, considered the world’s first smartphone.Marshal holds MS and BS degrees in electrical and computer engineering as well as a BS in physics from Clarkson University, and is an inventor on 14 US patents involving wearable medical devices.
