I processed orders for education materials.for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). I tracked shipments. I kept track of packaging materials, I entered information into various databases. I also answered questions about NAMI's education programs. I supervised volunteers. I also performed content management by putting education materials onto the internet. I worked at the reception desk when the receptionist was absent. In 2007 I received an outstanding service award.

I taught the National Alliance on Mental Illness' (NAMI) 12-week signature education program: Family-to-Family nine times. I did this ouside of my work hours. This course teaches people who have mentally ill relatives to understand and learn coping strategies. The course includes a description of the major mental illnesses, brain function, problem solving, medications, empathy, communications, self-care, recovery and advocacy.

I answered incoming calls to the National Alliance for Mental Illness on their toll-free helpline. Calls ranged from medication side effects, the location of the closest support group, differentiation of psychiatric disorders and even calls from people contemplating suicide. I also retrieved voicemail left overnight. I worked 4, 4-hour shifts. I worked more shifts than any other volunteer.

I started my career at the IRS as an economist in the Individual Statistics Branch of The Statistics of Income Division. I processed tax information from a stratified sample of returns. I provided estimates of collection accounts receivable which were part of the IRS Budget. I also provided quality assurance to the Buffalo, NY District Collections Division. I provided feedback to the division director on bankruptcy processing. I also taught Collection employees how to use the Collection Information Operations System. This system was a precursor to MS Office. I earned two sustained superior performance awards.
