I have spent my life engaged in the Arts, as a practicing artist and designer, a museum professional, an educator, a community arts advocate and organizer, and executive director of a professional orchestra. Currently I am the Public Relations Coordinator for the Southeast Steuben County Library.In November 2018 I was first elected to the Corning City Council, then again in 2019, and again in 2023; my current term ends in December 2027.Beginning in autumn 2019 through spring of 2023, I taught drawing to wonderful young artists at SUNY Corning Community College.As an artist I tend to create my work in private, but in everything else I relish the cooperation, the give and take, and the diversity of ideas I find in collaborating with others. This process has given me opportunities to work on a range of projects around the country and internationally, and to discover things I could never have found on my own. I have been an artist's assistant, board director, college instructor, conference coordinator, contractor, curator, designer, demonstrating artist, executive director, exhibition organizer, glass maker, graphics director, manager, museum preparator, printmaker, public art partner, researcher, sculptor, teacher, trainer, writer, urban planner and eternally curious student. Some of these were paid jobs, some volunteer undertakings, but all of them broadened and deepened my skills and experiences, allowing me to contribute more fully to my community.These varied work experiences have taught me to see the big picture while focusing on the details it takes to get there. I truly enjoy identifying and responding to challenges of all kinds, and while I am excited by opportunities to attempt the new and untried, I also take great satisfaction in helping to make the everyday function smoothly. Practicing patience, and thoughtful communication, prepares me to act decisively when needed. And while I have a great breadth and depth of experience, I will never claim to know things I don't; why would I, when it is so gratifying to learn new things? I am a dedicated advocate for making my community and the world a creatively richer and more fulfilling place to live.

Projects range from Public Art in the US and UK to graphic design and sculpture in a range of sizes and materials.Have taught classes in a range of processes, at schools and conferences in the US and UK, including engraving and printmaking with April Surgent at The Studio of the Corning Museum of Glass. Have been a teaching assistant to the late Czech engraver Jiří Harcuba, and Italian flameworking sculptor Vittorio Costantini, at both Pilchuck Glass School and The Studio; teaching assistant to Henry Halem, Rudi Gritsch, Jayne Persico, Jan Mares, and Jackie Cooley & Jo Newman at The Studio. Curates and co-organizes exhibitions of art and exhibition catalogues, and writes articles for professional journals, including my remembrance of friend and mentor, the master engraver, Jiří Harcuba, for Glass Quarterly. Glass Quarterly No. 133, Winter 2013-14: 28-35.Exhibitions curated/co-organized include: "Glass Beads Now: An International Survey" (2013) an exhibition of contemporary glass beads and jewelry by 25 makers from the US, UK, France, Germany, Canada, Czech and Japan. At Exhibit A Gallery, Corning, New York. "Same Difference: from Stourbridge to Frauenau to Corning" (2009) This exhibit featured the work of glassmakers from Stourbridge in England and Frauenau in Germany and was shown in Corning, New York during the 39th Glass Art Society Conference there. It was co-organized with Jaqueline Cooley and Denise Hunt from Glass Collaborations in the UK."The Exquisite Corpse in Glass: Figurative Flameworkers Play a Surrealist Game" (2005) an international invitational exhibition at the Castellani Art Museum, Niagara University, Niagara, NY. Photographed artworks, and wrote foreword, essay, glossary and artist bios for the exhibition catalogue. It is a touring exhibition, and is available through the Castellani Art Museum.

Executive DirectorOrchestra Of The Southern Finger Lakes Jul 2015 - Jan 2018Responsible for the administration, development and marketing of the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes (OSFL), the primary performing entity of Corning-Elmira Musical Arts, Inc. (CEMA), a 501(c)3 nonprofit. I worked closely with the Board of Directors to develop the organization's policies and procedures, as well as budget and funding priorities. Wrote and received a Regional Economic Development Council Grant for $25K to hire office staff, and a $3K grant from the Anderson Foundation to underwrite free concert admission for children. Increased NYSCA funding 33% and Corning Incorporated Foundation support by 20%. Organized several fundraising events.Working with our Musical Director and Conductor, I organized four major annual orchestra concerts, and four chamber music concerts, as well as additional runout performances. I booked venue sites, organized fundraising events, wrote contracts for performers, developed marketing materials including the website and print graphics.I worked with our Youth Orchestra Conductor and our Junior String Ensemble Conductor to produce three youth concerts yearly, including the annual side-by-side performance with the OSFL. I oversaw the activities of the Office Manager, Personnel Manager, Production Manager, Librarian, Chorus Conductor and the 50+ talented and hard working musicians of the Orchestra. -

Program Manager, Broadband Technology Opportunites ProgramSoutheast Steuben County Library Sep 2010 - Aug 2012Corning, New YorkBE:Lab was a technology training and job resource program I developed and managed at the Southeast Steuben County Library, as part of the New York State Library's Broadbandexpress@yourlibrary program. The initiative was funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP). The job entailed hiring and supervising staff and contractors; developing curriculum and scheduling classes for teaching computer software and technology hardware skills across a range of ability levels and a variety of platforms; purchasing and maintaining technology equipment; working one-on-one with library patrons to help them master technology issues; assisting displaced workers with online job searches, resume development, and job applications; writing and submitting monthly, quarterly and annual program evaluations; writing press releases and speaking to local media about the program; and collaborating with other BTOP grant recipient libraries within the Southern Tier Library System.

PreparatorThe Wolfsonian Foundation Feb 1989 - May 1992Miami Beach, FlI was responsible for the Foundation's collection of an estimated 18,000 works on paper (the collection had not been catalogued before my tenure). I developed a disaster plan for preserving the works in the event of a hurricane. As the Foundation was undergoing significant growth and transformation then, I spent some of the first couple years as a general preparator, working with all of the collections while the works on paper remained in storage. We inventoried and condition reported all the pieces that entered the collection, often at the rate of hundreds a month. We also oversaw the packing and relocation of the entire collection of 50,000+ objects to the old Southern Bell Exchange building, which had been converted to a state of the art storage facility on the other side of the island while the original Washington Storage building was then converted into a new museum, research center, and administrative offices. During this time I also advised the architects and designers on storage systems and environmental standards for the building renovations as it pertained to the works on paper.After the move to the Southern Bell building, I spent the rest of my time there documenting, cataloging and condition reporting the works on paper. I worked with visiting scholars, and with guest curators and photographers who were preparing the Foundation's inaugural exhibition and book.
