As a Critical Care Technician, I assisted the patient care team in the performance of various clinical tasks and procedures for the critically ill or injured pediatric patient. Specific responsibilities included patient monitoring, patient transport, assisting with emergency resuscitation, phlebotomy, and unit stocking. I needed to be able to prioritize multiple tasks, work in concert with medical providers of all levels, and provide excellent customer service to patients and their families.

In the Wellman Lab, I analyzed arterial diameter regulation and astrocyte Ca2+ signaling before and after Subarachnoid Hemorrhage in a mouse model, using such techniques as brain slicing, drug treatment, and multi-photon microscopy.Completed an undergraduate thesis titled "The Role of Astrocyte Ca2+ Signaling in Altered Neurovascular Coupling using a Mouse Model of Subarachnoid Hemorrhage." Subsequently received the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Distinguished Undergraduate Research award.

As the Director of Operation, I oversaw the day-to-day operations of the 25 member UVM Rescue Squad. Responsibilities of this role included managing activities of the UVM Rescue squad and relationships with outside agencies. Projects included the planning for and assisting in the implementation of construction of a new rescue station, design and purchasing of a new ambulance, and training of drivers, crew chiefs, and new members. Acted as a Volunteer Crew Chief/Advanced Emergency Medical Technician. On a crew, I acted as the primary care provider, overseeing the care and subsequent transportation of ill or injured patients to the University of Vermont Medical Center. In total, I volunteered 8300+ hours as a member of UVM Rescue.
