Planner I / Landscape Architect-In-Training
Visualization Intern
Visualized key sets of data, analysis, arguments and theories for the United Nations Habitat publication, ‘The Quito Papers and the New Urban Agenda.’ UN Habitat Director Joan Clos, Sociologists Richard Sennett and Saskia Sassen, and Ricky Burdett, of the London School of Economics, provided research and insight towards a document that seeks to provide a conceptual foundation for the U.N.’s thinking about cities and will guide urban development and planning, globally, for the next 20 years. The publication debuted at the UN Habitat Conference in Quito, Ecuador in 2016.
Professional Intern
I pursued an opportunity with the New York City Department of City Planning Office of Urban Design. While there, I worked on three projects that included various scales and boroughs of the city. Firstly, I conducted a shadow analysis of new development on an existing neighborhood in Brooklyn. For the following project, I drafted zoning amendments to keep unique landscape features intact from development in Staten Island. And finally, I designed a conceptual streetscape and road improvements focusing on pedestrian accessibility in the Bronx.
Professional Intern
While collaborating with the City of Rochester Bureau of Planning and Zoning I worked on the documentation and visualization for an update to the Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan for the City of Rochester. With this plan, the City of Rochester seeks to take advantage and capitalize on its extensive waterfront along Lake Ontario, the Genesee River and the Erie Canal in order to bring about a higher quality of life for residents, encourage new development and investment and attract outside visitors to the area. By enacting this plan, the City will have the framework to implement strategic development along these water bodies heading into the future. This plan was adopted by the New York State Secretary of State in September of 2016.
Professional Intern
As a summer in intern in 2011 as well as currently, I was responsible for many different tasks on an array of projects. I was in charge of designing two posters for the Corn Hill Neighborhood Design Charrette. These boards were meant to convey the current conditions of the neighborhood to the community so that they could better understand what the constraints and opportunities were. This lead to a very successful charrette in the months that followed. In addition, I along with two other Design Center members, designed a park for the High Falls district of Rochester and had that preliminary design on display at the annual Greentopia Festival which is held in that same district. Currently, I am working on a series of visuals for an upcoming event called "Light the River" in which the city is applying for a grant to host this one time event of visual displays synced with a performance by the Rochester Oratorio Society to celebrate the Genesee River which runs through the heart of the city. The visuals I worked on were included in the grant application. It has been a wonderful experience interning at the Rochester Regional Community Design Center and I look forward to working with them in different capacities in the future.
