About Martha Cornejo

Martha Cornejo- BioMartha Cornejo was born in Mexico and was raised in an orphanage by the Catholic nuns. She was later adopted in the U.S. and sent to the foster care system where she later became an advocate for foster children. Because of her work in improving child welfare system, she was selected to be the Fresno County Youth Ambassador where she provided technical assistance to the Department of Social Services in the implementation of AB 12 and statewide legislation in Fresno County. Martha graduated from Fresno State in 2010 with a B.S. in Health Science, and is also an AmeriCorp HealthCorps Program Alumni. As an AmeriCorps participant, her focus was in the healthcare workforce development in effort to increase student’s awareness and exposure in the healthcare sector. She also managed, planned, and implemented the “Growing Health Leaders” conference for high school students in partnership with Tulare County Office of Education and the Workforce Investment Board. She is currently the Community Organizer for the Policy and Resident Leadership Development Program with Building Healthy Communities at Centro La Familia Advocacy Services. In addition to her passion for making a positive difference and being a voice for the voiceless, she works with underrepresented communities in a coalition of organizations that are working to ensure a diverse and multi-cultural group of community leaders stay engaged in the planning processes and advocate for the adoption of a resident-involved, healthy General Plan. She has more than eleven years of experience in advocating for current and former foster children policies and legislative changes to improve systems.
