About Martha Hewison

Ms Hewison has over 20 years of education experience for INGO’s, donors and governments mostly in East, West and Southern Africa with a particular focus on education in post-conflict contexts and fragile states. Currently she leads the Accelerated Education Working Group (AEWG) at the Inter Agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE) focusing on alternative / non formal education opportunities for out of school children and youth, specifically Accelerated Education.Ms Hewison is experienced in representation at all levels, effectively liaising with Ministry officials, partners and major donors as well as county based programme teams. She is able to deliver high quality programmes in particularly challenging environments, leading teams, managing budgets, and has extensive experience developing strategic initiatives and designing multi -million dollar programmes for several major donors; DFID, EU and USAID. Her specific areas of expertise are delivering basic, alternative/ non-formal and accelerated education in conflict/ post conflict and fragile contexts, refugee education, teacher professional development and programme management. Ms Hewison is a qualified teacher with a first degree in education and a master’s degree in emergency and development practices. Ms Hewison is also a trained education cluster coordinator and has experience in education research. Ms Hewison is adaptable in a multi cultural environment, demonstrates strong leadership, management and has excellent communication, presentation and representation skills.
