As a fourth year student at Purdue University, I am on track to receive my BS in Biology from the School of Science as well as a minor in Psychology and earn my Learning Beyond the Classroom Certificate. I am grateful to the outstanding faculty that I have had the opportunity to learn from and am proud to have maintained honors for seven consecutive semesters.I have embraced the culture at Purdue through my involvement in Kappa Alpha Theta, Old Masters, Caduceus Club, and Purdue University Neuroscience Society. Purdue has also allowed me to gain valuable research experience through my work with the Tesmer Lab. Laboratory goals, under the direction of Dr. John Tesmer, focused on purifying and obtaining structures of G-protein related proteins. Moreover, I had the opportunity to be a Teaching Instructor (TI) for the Cell Biology course, BIOL231, under Dr. Andrea Kasinski, where I facilitated office hours sessions of up to 60 students as an extension of classroom learning.I have gained valuable clinical experience through my work as a medical scribe for the company INscribe. I assisted providers in both the IU Health Neurology and ENT outpatient clinics in Lafayette. Additionally, I aimed to help first year students at Purdue excel in their Biology and Chemistry courses by tutoring at the free Purdue tutoring service, COSINE.Most recently, I interned at Indiana University's Herman B. Wells Summer Internship Program where I gained a comprehensive understanding of work in basic science research. In Dr. Hongxia Ren's lab, I engaged in projects related to the functions of the protein GPR17, which is important in regulating glucose metabolism and energy homeostasis. Each of these experiences have facilitated a greater knowledge of science and STEM-related fields, and have allowed me to garner valuable skills in communication, leadership, and teaching. I look forward to the rest of my collegiate career and to opportunities that will allow me to grow professionally and further enhance these skills.
