Core Manager; Research ScientistMassachusetts General Hospital Jan 2009 - Feb 2012Boston, MaCore Manager for the MGH Drosophila Genetics Core, director, Lizabeth A. Perkins. • Performed genetic modifier screens including documentation of phenotypes.• Oversaw daily operation of the Core, worked with Core clients to plan and execute experiments, trained researchers, and monitored and recorded use of Core reagents for billing purposes.• Issued monthly Core invoices and performed monthly MGH Core data journal entries.• Co-ordinated production of Drosophila media with the Molecular Biology media production staff, monitored media supplies, maintained records of fly media usage, tested and monitored all batches of media.• Maintained and managed fly stocks for the Core and research labs at the MGH -
Postdoctoral Fellow; Research ScientistMassachusetts General Hospital Dec 2001 - Jan 2009Boston, MaResearch fellow in the laboratory of Lizabeth A. Perkins, Department of Pediatric SurgicalResearch Laboratories, Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School.• Explored Drosophila as a model genetic system to evaluate pulmonary therapeutics during tracheal development.• Carried out targeted in vivo genetic modifier screens with genes implicated in receptor tyrosine kinase signaling.• Maintained and managed a collection of over 400 fly stocks.• Provided support for the Pediatric Surgical Research Labs: lab ordering, radiation officer, microscope maintenance and training, lab meeting coordinator -
Post Doctoral FellowCornell University 1994 - 2001Ithaca, NyPostdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Maureen R. Hanson, Department of Molecular Biologyand Genetics, Cornell University.• Implemented and improved the tobacco chloroplast genome biolistic transformation technique in the laboratory.• Used chloroplast transformation to define cis sequences important in defining a C as a target for chloroplast RNA editing. Collaborated with laboratory members studying RNA editing.• Expressed a synthetic chloroplast-optimized GFP in transgenic tobacco plants.• Trained and supervised technicians, graduate and undergraduate students. -
Graduate Student ResearcherStanford University School Of Medicine Sep 1987 - Sep 1994Stanford, CaPh.D. candidate in the laboratory of Stuart E. Leff, Department of Molecular Pharmacology,Stanford University Medical School.• Determined that stable expression of transfected SmN protein in HeLa and COS cells did not affect alternative splicing of transiently expressed calcitonin/CGRP mRNA in the cells.• Collaborated to show the maternal genomic imprinting of murine SnrpN.• Used single stranded conformational polymorphism analysis to define a polymorphism in the human SNRPN gene and used the polymorphism to show maternal genomic imprinting of human SNRPN. -
Research TechnicianDana-Farber Cancer Institute 1983 - 1987Boston, MaResearch assistant in the laboratory of Steven H. Herrmann, Division of Pediatric Oncology,Dana Farber Cancer Institute.• Used established protocols to purify a major histocompatability antigen (H-2Kk) and inserted the protein into P388D1 cells by fusion of H-2Kk containing liposomes to the cells. The modified P388D1 cells were recognized as targets and lysed by CTL.• Participated in a study showing a receptor-ligand interaction between Lfa-3 and CD2 using artificial cells generated with a nylon matrix coated with a lipid membrane.• Additional duties included ordering laboratory supplies, carrying cell lines, performing cytotoxic T lymphocyte assays, serine esterase assays, macrophage depletion of T lymphocytes, general laboratory organization and training of undergraduate students.
