A life settlement, also referred to as a viatical settlement, is simply the sale of an existing life insurance policy for more than its vested or cash surrender value. The seller of the life insurance policy receives a lump sum cash payment. The buyer is responsible for all future premium payments. If a senior is aged 65 or above, their life insurance policy may be worth much more than they think.
