I'm interested in digitally-enhanced learning for all levels of education, working with partner organisations to produce optimal and affordable solutions that work towards equity in access and attainment. I started writing about the social and political potential of the internet in the mid 1990s, leading the University of Cape Town's first experiments with digital learning technologies. While Vice-Chancellor of the University of Salford I chaired the Board of Jisc - the provider of digital solutions for almost all British universities - as Jisc transitioned from an ISP to a leading innovator. More recently, I've worked with enterprises that are riding the wave of accelerating digital innovation, including GetSmarter, 2U, Hubble Studios and Sales Impact Academy. Today, I'm privileged to be advising the Valenture Institute, partnered with the University of Cape Town to create the UCT Online High School and offering affordable access to quality education to more than 4000 learners. Through my affiliation with UCT's Graduate School of Business, I supervise student research for the Masters in Inclusive Innovation and design and convene courses for visiting students from partner universities across the world.
