Working day to day to undertake Mechanical Fitting activities, repairs and inspections on systems and equipment on all classes of Royal Navy Submarines and, when required, other sections around the Clyde base. This guarantees completion of all planned preventative maintenance and nuclear implicated work to ensure the department meets the objectives of the business. Identification and rectification of all system, manufacture, defects and alterations are ensured for the continued availability and performance of HMNB Clyde Submarines, Surface Vessels and the Estate.

Onboard DP III Heavy Lift Vessel S3000 as part of the construction phase of Offshore Wind Farm Neart na Gaoithe (NnG).Working under the guidance of the Chief Engineer to maintain function of all systems on board. This includes works of all planned maintenance and, when required, repairs to be carried out to ensure optimal use of the DP system onboard for work on deck to be carried out safely for the project.

Vessel Engineer based around the UK and Mainland Europe working on various Wind Farms. Sole responsibility of operating and maintaining all machinery onboard the vessel and assisting on Deck. As an engineer with Njord, I have gained experience working on smaller vessels (26 meters) within a 3-man crew including myself, the Master and a Deckhand. This has allowed me to become more independent as I have complete responsibility of the Engine room, maintenance and completing bunker checklists before commencing. Within this role, my problem-solving skills and overall Engineering skills have vastly improved as well as learning how to control the Ship manoeuvring and competently work on deck transferring PAX’s to Wind Turbines and tying off the ship to the Pontoon.

As an Officer of the Watch, my duties are to keep the Engine Room operational, solely and with my fellow engineers, and to complete various tasks from the planned maintenance system around the vessel. Daily I maintained Mechanical, Electrical and Hydraulic equipment so the vessel can function efficiently in a safe manner. Communication is key, so my feedback must be clear as I sail with multilingual crew. I now have experience training Cadets which has been a rewarding experience. Being through the same Cadetship, I can relate and pass my knowledge to Cadets so they can become safe Marine Engineers in the future.

Working 7 months on standby and support vessels based in the North Sea was a great experience but also challenging. Under the sponsorship of North Star Shipping, Our vessels travelled to several Oil rigs in various weather conditions to help supply and respond to emergency situations if needed. My role was to work alongside and job shadow fellow Marine Engineers onboard to gain the skills to be competent in undertaking watches and obtaining my EOOW Certification. My mentors onboard were passionate about showing me all the systems onboard and how to maintain them in a safe manner.

SSTG provided me with the necessary training and guidance to complete my Engine Cadetship and gain my Engineer Officer of the Watch certification.
