Throughout my educational + professional years, I have focused on the investigation of regional + local habitats and how the practice of Landscape Architecture, site design, conservation and sustainability relate to our environments. Having worked in both the private + public sectors, working on projects of diverse types - pocket gardens to City scale, I constantly look for concepts + approaches that meld the natural + built environments. Our efforts are to leverage these previous experiences and knowledge to design our next best project.With the knowledge gained, I am looking to continue our connections to designers and clients who have similar passions as ours and to assist them achieve a balanced environment. We are currently incorporating our knowledge of water availability and use not only for landscapes + irrigation, but for the San Diego region as a whole. We define our approach to projects as 'regionally appropriate' landscapes. The ability to design and implement projects that can be green, lush, beautiful, create habitats for wildlife, reduce energy and pollution, conserve vast amounts of water and provide a fit to the Southern California areas with the Mediterranean climate. Areas of Expertise: Estate residential, commercial development, institutional / public facilities, habitat restoration/open space and parks + recreation and are all project types that we excel in.With the water use restrictions by the State of California growing even more restrictive, Environs is active with the State of California Department of Water Resources and the 2020 update of the MWELO (Model Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance), the San Diego County Water Authority (SDCWA) and it's member agencies and the local chapter of the ASLA. We assist all clients with evaluation and implementation of 'regionally appropriate' landscapes that will improve the quality of the project and save money from reduced irrigation, on site water integration and reduced maintenance.

Principal + OwnerW A + E R Jan 2007 - PresentAs the reality of water in California becomes more understood by owners and residents, I believe that a groundswell of support for the creation of a circular system of water use, treatment, re-use will be realized. The current linear system of transporting water 500+ miles at great energy, pollution and cost to be used once, treated and dumped in the ocean is unacceptable. Water reclamation, storm water capture and reuse, and reclaimed water are all examples of what can be done to reduce the reliance on imported water in Southern California. The drought cycle from the previous four years was a replay of the same event 20 years ago in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Without water, the business of California will evaporate.Landscapes from the 70's, 80's, 90's to recent installations were not designed to be 'regionally appropriate'. They typically are huge expanses of lawn and ornamental plants from other regions of the country that require extreme amounts of water, fertilizer, maintenance, and generate traffic and yard waste that all adds to the pollution. Renovations of these grounds to natives and Mediterranean plant palettes reduces water consumption, creates habitat and purifies the air. A correct approach to landscapes and water will free up substantial amounts of this precious resource for the region and incorporation of sustainable design benefits the soil and landscapes by retaining rainfall and run-off on site.W A + E R is committed to these principals and to the betterment of the region through working with owners to achieve these results.

This opportunity has me engaged in local, regional + state wide issues pertaining to the profession of Landscape Architecture along with water use issues. Additionally, I volunteered for the recent update to the State of California Department of Water Resources Model Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance (MWELO) - serving on 6 subcommittees to help assure that the revisions are a positive for the efforts of water conservation and for the benefit of the Landscape Architects practicing in the State of California

City Landscape ArchitectCity Of Chula Vista Sep 1989 - Jul 1997I had the pleasure of doing 5 full time jobs that involved all parks, streetscapes, open space, regional park, inhouse design, field inspections, design committee for all master planned communities and then some. The experience was special in that I learned how to build a City from the underground utilities up and had the opportunity to meet and work with some very special individuals.
