As an intern with Everest Engineering I am using my time to learn about the product development process. I take inspiration from the first line of the Agile Manifesto which says "We are uncovering better ways of developing software by doing it and helping others do it."I'd like to credit Everest for helping me to develop a "beginners mindset". There are a number of amazing and inspiring people here. My main areas of focus are:- working with some great clients who have challenging problems to solve, this provides me with focus to learn their problems;- developing and growing our burgeoning data practice (I always wanted to use the word burgeoning in a post);- provoking the internal learning and development of Everest as it grows from startup to scaleup; and- having a bunch of fun along the way.

I am researching the relationship between all aspects of data and analytics (broadly a data analytics capability) and the ability of organisations to generation innovation (which I term data-driven innovation).In my many years working in corporates and as a consultant, organisations place great importance on being able to gain competitive advantage through innovation. I reflect that whilst the tech to analyse data has changed greatly (from file systems to databases, to big data, cloud, distributed processing and generative AI), the process and thinking behind this has not.For my research I draw upon a number of disciplines, like software engineering where (for example) DORA research has evolved how we think about software development, and social sciences, in particular the socio-technical systems research done at Tavistock Institute, to the more modern approaches, such as data mesh which attempts to cross-pollinate ideas and evolve the data conversation.My research will be of interest to any organisation seeking to leverage the increased digitisation and automation of the modern world to shape their competitive future. Specifically those companies now looking into generative AI and needing to go beyond ChatGPT towards a new paradigm for data-driven innovation.
