Started at TCA on the futures trading prop desk. The company launched a new financial trader training programme product in December 2006. I was responsible for designing the marketing strategy, lead funnel, landing pages, autoresponders, webinars & ad campaigns from scratch - figuring out what would bring the best ROI and scaling up. In the first year I was able to produce £1M of new revenue, with a return-on-ad-spend multiple of approximately 12 - for every £100 spent on online ads, the company was selling £1200 of training, with minimal other overheads. I also had a hand in helping support the remote team.

This was a "sell side" role - trading a broad section of US commodity futures; energy, metals & softs on behalf of managed client accounts. Did my first pork-belly futures trade here as my initiation (homage to the film Trading Places). Trading for clients is a totally different dynamic to prop trading - I gained valuable experience in this role, broadening my market knowledge and understanding of participants.

Data driven analytical Euribor & Short-Sterling STIR futures trading - I was finding and executing futures calendar spread arbitrage trades. I was looking for pure arb opportunities through multi-legged implied-in and implied-out price backwardations all the way along the interest rate yield curve. My most complex arb was a 32 legged Euribor futures spread - thank goodness for low fee's! I also did market-making in back month outrights with no quoted prices, and then offset my fills into the implied spreads. Made use of Communicating Ltd proprietary Aquarius algorithmic matching engine to automatically identify mispriced arbitrage opportunities.

Traded my own account, with a discretionary strategy in US equity index futures outrights. I built up a solid trading performance track record and established strong industry contacts that later facilitated my move into proprietary trading with Refco.

I provided the backup power solution for the brand new British Telecom building at Temple Quay in Bristol, which included positioning an 800KW diesel generator on the roof of the tower building.
