The California Institute for Social Business as part of the California State University Channel Islands is the first university in the United States to offer a minor in social business as defined by Prof. Muhammad Yunus. Additionally, it offers certificates and is developing other academic programs around social business including a social business MBA. The CISB aims at providing its students with a hands-on experience of actually applying their knowledge through the creation of social businesses themselves. Therefore, the CISB is currently working on the creation of a Social Business Incubation Center and Fund that will work with students to enhance their learning experience while creating financially self-sustainable social value in their communities. My role is to lead the institute, develop its vision, mission and goals and to execute on them.

Grameen Caldas is a social business incubation center and venture capital fund.It also provides social business creation consulting services to companies seeking the creation of a Joint Venture with Prof. Mohammad Yunus.Responsible for overall management of the organization. Lead the company from start-up to financial sustainability in the first year.The incubation center is developing five social businesses - three have received external funding from a Grameen Caldas investor, two of them are joint ventures with large multinationals and have their own sources of financing.

THE GRAMEEN CREATIVE LAB, Wiesbaden, GermanyA social business communication and incubation company co-founded by 2006 Nobel Piece Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus. Day-to-day tasks included delivery of public speeches, creative workshop and event leadership, international social business implementation management and biz dev. / sales:• Implementation of the Holistic Social Business Movement in Caldas, Colombia, a highly innovative regional development approach based on the combination of a microfinance organization and a social business (SB) venture capital fund to improve local living conditions. Responsible for overall onsite project mgmt from initial contract negotiations to business design developments and SB pilot implementations. Project ongoing but first SB pilots ready for launch. • Preparation of the social business launch of “The One Euro Shoe” for Adidas Group / Reebok. Responsible for on- and off-site feasibility and market study, business design development and pilot execution including the sales of 5,000 pairs of shoes in three different test markets in Bangaldesh using e.g. a beggar network as an innovative distribution mechanism. Project results delivery on time and on budget despite highly challenging local conditions in Bangladesh.• Multiple social business concept communication and business development activities including the most recent presentation of SB best practices in front of 200+ Alpina managers (leading Colombian dairy company) or the execution of SB creative workshops in the US, India, South Africa and Eastern Europe. All presentations received very positive feedback with comments ranging from “very interesting and entertaining” to “inspirational”.

Day-to-day work required team leadership, analytical and conceptual design skills and in-depth business knowledge

Controlling and Marketing (two separate internships): • Controlling: preparation and participation at the global budget negotiations and elaboration and automation of a monthly financial reporting for senior management• Marketing: Led market study on the market potential for air cargo to Azerbaijan. Results used as basis for decision on expansion of business to that region.
