About Martyn Bates
Welcome to my LinkedIn page.I am a Business Development manager for Kardex AutoStore and I help businesses in the UK and Ireland by tailoring AutoStore systems to their needs. If you ever want to discuss what we can do to help optimise your warehouse operations please reach out to me.For 16 years I have held a number of roles at Ocado. Firstly, I trained to become an Engineering Project Manager, a role I carried out for over six years. and delivered a number of large automation projects to help Ocado grow its Hertfordshire site. In addition to delivering a range of engineering project I have also completed a NEBOSH general certificate and a Masters degree in Engineering Project & Systems Management.For almost 10 years I was a driving force inside the Product Development team within Ocado's Engineering Department, which later became part of Ocado Technology. Having led the feasibility work for much of the hardware in the Ocado Smart Platform, I delivered the majority of the systems prototypes in collaboration with a number of consultancies, machine builders and manufacturers.After delivering machinery, racking and totes for the Ocado Smart Platform, I grew and ran an internal engineering consultancy team, which was known as the Technical Lead Team. This team specialised in identifying the engineering capabilities and disciplines that are needed to continue to drive innovative new products and automation. Having identified the skills that are needed, this team actively seeks out the leaders in these disciplines so that we may work with them to grow the stock of engineering and technological knowledge that is available to Ocado Engineering.In my post at Ocado Technology as a Senior Staff Engineer I set about helping the organisation understand how its product perform in the field so that we had credible models for product lifespan and their cost of ownership.

In the design office I was able to develop my skills with Pro Engineer (2001) as I assisted with the design of components and machines such as uncoilers, levelers, roll feeders, press tooling and conveyors.Another element of the programme inclded site work, which included helping to install and commission two production lines at William King Limited. I also assisted with the procurement of the bespoke components designed in the drawing office.
