Analyst Tester
One year contract responsible for the analysis of business objectives, and using them for the creation and execution of test plans to validate and verify the solution. The new solutions were centred on PowerBI delivering what was needed from SQL Server on Azure. The test plans would cover the design of the data model, the flow and manipulation of data using Azure Data Factory, the calculations used for any derived values in views, stored procedure, DAX and the final delivery in PowerBI. This required a combination of tests to verify what had been built and validate the work against the original request, covering every aspect of the product such as performance, accuracy, usability and accessibility. This work required a meticulous approach because of the accuracy needed for calculations. A variety of test planning techniques were used to ensure coverage while maintaining efficiency.
Test Data Analyst
Responsible for reducing risk in a Data Warehouse. Primary focus was reviewing requirements and verifying development plans, then performing test analysis to ensure the correct level of test coverage and the most suitable execution method; manual or automated. Test execution involved many SQL scripts and data analysis to validate the final product meets the user’s expectations. Where test execution was suitable, based on many factors such as repeatability and scale, tests were automated. Test automation tools such as SQL scripting, BDD, PowerShell, Python were used along with techniques such as data driven testing. During my time at the Admiral Data Warehouse, I was integral in the design of the of the manual and automation strategy, personally responsible for a third of all automated unit tests. Other personal initiatives included: standardising test plans, techniques for default test case creation that reduced the time taken from 30 minutes to only 5, created several testing guides and procedural changes, refreshed Intranet pages and mentored two new testers.
Self Employed
Business Development Manager
Information Management (IM) as a process starts before any data has been created and does not end when it has been used in a single decision making process, it never ends. While most understand and appreciate this, there are some that still underestimate the importance of good Information Management. My role as BDM for Schlumberger was to champion IM with our clients and departments within the company.A BDM is part sales and part marketing with the aim being to bridge the gap between the technical details and the decision makers. This involved analysing the market, creating marketing material, identifying customer needs, ensuring Schlumberger had the best offering to address those needs, educating our colleagues and promoting our solutions to our customers. During my time as BDM the overall business developed to 350 distinct customer accounts, an increase of 20%, and a total community of more than 5,000 concurrent users. I spent a lot of my time presenting to clients and colleagues, both in one-on-one situations and in large events. I organized and presented at many user group meetings, technology days, lunch & learns and conferences in many different countries. While being very adept with MS PowerPoint I prefer to deploy a mix of media and styles to connect to the audience, such as video, demonstrations, whiteboard sessions, Prezi and roundtable. No two clients are completely alike in corporate culture or problem details. Finding ways of addressing different groups is a challenge and I personally found it to be very rewarding.
Business Manager, Unstructured Data
Unstructured data is a growing problem for most, if not all, companies. While databases have a known structure and processes for data retrieval, documents are being created at an exponentially growing rate, most without a managed way of identifying and retrieving the information long-term. It was my role within Schlumberger Information Solutions to develop innovative ways of controlling and delivering this information to the right people in time to make the right decisions.Schlumberger was reseller of two products aimed at this area. I was responsible for managing the business for both products and regarded my role as having three main parts: Product Champion, Business Development and Support, of our clients and the business. Along with managing the relationship with our suppliers, I championed unstructured data management within Schlumberger and our clients. Meeting with clients to discuss their data environment, identify areas for improvement and developing solutions was a very important aspect of the role.
Senior Deployment Specialist
This role involved technical sales, deployment, configuration and support of a georeferencing and mapping solution. This required significant international travel and a varied skillset to support the highly distributed market. The technical aspect of the role covered; database scripting, file scripting, web crawlers, Natural language processing and html editing. As part of the core team in Houston, I was responsible for arming all the appropriate Schlumberger staff worldwide with the skills necessary. I achieved this via online training, documentation creation, regular webinars and classroom based training.
Project Manager
In this role I was the manager of a team of five technical experts and numerous data management projects. This involved technical sales, installation, data migration and support of data management solutions within Iron Mountain and its customers. I was personally involved in installation, configuration and provided training on new custom solutions to clients in USA, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Indonesia, China and Australia.
Commercialization Manager
This involved working with users to understand requirements, documenting the specifications for engineering and then testing the software to ensure quality and fit for purpose. During my time as Commercialization Manager I implemented a complete tracking system from customer requirement through to inclusion in commercial product. This was a key part in the accreditation of ISO 9001 for the software development standards.
Data Migration Specialist
Responsible for the migration of data from obsolete systems into commercial solutions. Developed tools to export and manipulate data from a legacy tool ready for data loading and used these tools at several locations in the UK and Houston, Texas.
