As a Chief Radio Electronics Technician, my job consists of the operation and trouble shooting of communication equipment and processing of a high volume of message traffic essential to all facets of shipboard operations. Prepare and coordinate planned maintenance schedules, provide technical assistance, and conduct requisite training of subordinate personnel to ensure the integrity and reliability of communications and associated equipment operations. Maintain technical publications and files. Ensure compliance with Communications Security (COMSEC) procedures and instructions relevant to cryptographic (crypto) security, transmission security, and emissions security. Orchestrate and provide proper operation of various types of crypto equipment needed for various communication procedures. Manage the transfer of digital and analog information using a variety of military or commercial satellites, Tactical LOS, HF, UHF, VHF, EHF, HF, and Long haul platforms and equipment suites. Routinely perform communications operation within a battle group environment requiring unique and specific circuits and protocols. Ensure compliance with COMSEC requirements on both transmission and receipt of communications messages. Manage the operation of information systems in support of worldwide telecommunications networks. Assigned systems include, but are not limited to CBSP (commercial broadband satellite program), INMARSAT SATURN B, and NIPR/SIPRNET, and DMDS. Fulfill additional responsibilities that include the setup, calibration, configuration, operation and maintenance of computer routers, servers and interfaces used in Local Area Networks and Wide Area Networks for Department of Defense (DOD) applications. Operated, maintained, and controlled, Communications Computer and Intelligence (C41) Systems to include equipment used for communication, tracking, recognition and identification.
