• Characterized the toxicity limits of E. coli to various chemicals including styrene and phenol that are normally produced chemically.
• Determined which efflux pumps from a library of ~50 could be used to maintain production of these chemicals within an E. coli cell while at the same time keeping the concentration of the molecule below the toxicity.
• Determined a correlation equation between an optical density plate reader and a spectrophotometer to increase the rate and accuracy with which growth curves are generated.
• Conducted chemical toxicity tests on wild-type E. coli to establish baseline growth curves in the presence of styrene, phenol, and benzene using an optical density plate reader.
• Growing, transforming genetically engineered, and wild-type E. coli with forty-three different efflux pumps to measure their efficiency at removing toxic aromatic compounds produced via metabolic pathways.

Design of Experiments using separation techniques to determine effects of solvent type, continuous operation & space time, resin mass, and batch operations (separately) on extraction of desired material from resin grown in the presence of laurate-overproducing cyanobacteria. Analytical analysis of impurities, mainly sulfur, present in the pre-final-stage.

• Completed a hydrographic survey of a raw water reservoir to determine the volume and topography for purposes of creating a dynamic model between volume and water level.
• Worked with three other engineers to put together a standard operating procedure for conducting hydrographic surveys safely and effectively.
• Conducted an experiment to troubleshoot the copper concentration process for purposes of improving production and recovery of copper.
• Discovered that there was a statistically significant difference in grind sizes between identical process streams and using Six Sigma, recommended that the sampling methodology be revised so that it remains in control.
