About Mary Davis
My Teaching PhilosophyI believe that I am a person with strong values. Honesty, integrity, respect for everyone, and a love of God are things that were instilled in me at a young age. I believe that I can not only teach these values, but also model them for my students. To me one of the most important things in teaching children is love for teaching. A teacher who loves her job is an effective teacher and this is important to me.Consistency plays a huge part in teaching. I believe that students who know what is expected of them, and the same consequences every time for non compliance, makes for a classroom filled with students who feel safe. I have a commitment to teaching and to the children in my classroom. I have a creative side that I think will allow me to engage in art and music activities that tie in with the lessons. I believe that children need these things as well as core subjects. My classroom will be place of peace and safety for the children. The children can always expect me to be in class and prepared. The children can expect consistency: the rules do not change and the same consequences for each infraction. I will teach them the required subjects along with honesty and respect for each other. We will have fun while learning and only have enough homework to reinforce the skills and concepts while leaving them time to be children. I believe that I am compassionate and my main priority is my students. It is their education and it should be a fun time. As a teacher it is my job and my pleasure to make learning fun and to instill a love of learning. I believe that if you stop learning today, you cannot lead or help mold the future of tomorrow."Tell me and I'll forget. Show me, and I may not remember. Involve me, and I'll understand." This Native American saying says much about how children learn. It also reminds me that as a teacher I should always strive to engage my students and keep them involved.
